You will certainly get varing responses on this. Pick-up depends on which Base and the Gl employee that works there. I have picked up probably 15 times but from only three Bases. All my experencies have been good but good people worked there. I did drive three hours one time for a pick-up without calling ahead and had to come home empty. The GL man was out of town making a pick-up himself. Some Bases you can drive off, some have to be hauled or towed. It will be up to you to find out what is required from each Base. The bid process is no big deal and the EUC,s have been pretty quick lately. You will have to file for an EUC and be approved before you can pickup. I believe now they charge your card on winning date but am not sure of that. All mine were charged on aproval of EUC but I have not made an EUC required purchase for several years.
I am registered with GL. I would need to drive to the base with my diesel mechanic with some experience with Deuces and preview it. I assume after the preview we can bid online and once it is over, winner would contact the GL represent to setup a date/time to complete some paper work plus fee transfer. Would that be similar procedures?

Spend the next month serching and reading for "GL", "Government Liquidation", "Government Liquidation customer service", "EUC" Its all been covered and there is literaly more than a months worth of reading.
The paperwork needs to be filled out and sent in within a short amount of time and its all done online and thru emails and faxes. The local GL rep at the base will have nothing to do with the paperwork until its all completed and you schedule a timefor pick up. Going to do apreview with a good diesel mech would be a wise thing to do.

Mileage varies, I found the 10 day window to get your vehicle to be nailbiting if you work for a living. That 10 days at Camp Ripley really is like 2 specific days since they aren't there all week.
Don't know about the place you're thinking of buying at.
The GL guys were nice enough but the short timeframe to retrieve and get your paperwork in is nervewracking when you plunk down thousands of dollars.

If only it was that easy ! In theory, yes . . . In reality . . . ROTFLMAO !
I suggest you follow Jeffs advice, KsM715, you have the paperwork issue wrong straight out the gate, and what you see when , and if , they actually give you the time to preview it well , that may not be what will be waiting for you when you go to pick it up !
Read , Read , Read, and then go back and READ some more ! You will be so glad you did !

My experence with pick ups can be nail biting. Ft. Carson and FT. Riley both will only let you pick up on Tue-Thur. and you must be on time. I think as long as you get in contact with the site that has the stuff they may allow some more time if you don't ask you will never know. Make sure you write down your contacts name if needed later. As with anything If you come of as a PITA they will respond with the same. They do want to get the stuff gone that is why the small time frame. Its not much work for them to have the item listed agian.
The other thing is getting on the site you must know what docs you need and what items you must leave at home. Car reg., proof of insurance, some kind of govermental ID make sure its still valid, The paperwork from GL, and bring your own map on how to get to the spot you need to go ( I have found at the guard gate the attendants either have no idea what GL is or they have no sence of direction to point you in the right direction.
Oh yea if they ask questions at the gate do answer but don't go on and on, something you say may be used .......... Remeber your dealing with mostly some type of military personel (retired, second job, or just plain mil spec contractor and will not take any crap for anything BE NICE AND FRIENLY.

The best thing you can do is to establish a good relationship with the GL site employees where you do business. Make sure you read all the GL info on the site concerning previewing, bidding, making payment and picking up you goods.
If you make an appointment to pick up or preview be there or call and let them know you will be late or reschedule.....do not arrive late and expect them to jump through hoops for you.
If you show up unannounced and they can't load you or let you preview just accept the fact that they have other customers to help. While it may appear that they have plenty of help you have to remember that in addition to loading sold stuff out and escorting previewers they also have to accept new stuff in, sort it, lot it, photograph it and place it in the warehouse or in storage lots. That info has to be loaded into the compter and sent to GL HQ and put on the website.
Getting off on the wrong foot or going in there demanding things will get you the minimum amount of service or, in extreme cases, get you escorted to the gate by Security.
The rule now is that you can only preview items once the sale begins......some sites will cut you some slack, others will not.
It's amazing how much good will a box of fresh doughnuts will produce.
Treat them as you want to be treated and you will have no problems.

Thats a new one. Is that to say that you can only preview a lot once the lot is open for bidding? Or as long as its listed on the website?
(see even some of us more seasoned GL buyers dont know everything these knuckle heads do)

That is the rule at Redstone......I was told it was the same at all sites now....as I stated some sites will cut you some slack depending on how well they know you and your demeanor.

I got an M923 from GL/Barstow recently. I didn't preview in person; I do NOT recommend that you take that gamble! My EUC clearance took two weeks, though your mileage may vary on that. I had a towing company pick the truck up, and they said that the local GL folks were not hard to deal with. GL wanted the pickup done on Wednesday or Friday mornings. My truck started and drove. However, the towing company fetched it with a Landoll trailer, so they would have gotten it to me even if it was a dead hulk.

I am planing a recovery at barstow myself. Once my euc clears and gl and I set a date I am on my way. They say that they will not load so I am taking eveything and the kitchen sink to load my M818. I did not get to prevew it because of work so I am worried about what I have wating on me, but not the end of the world if I have a pile a scrap iron, I hope not anyway. Time will tell and I just hope the gl rep in barstow will be better than the GL man that I have delt with before (enough said). I wish you luck if you get it or not, If I go there first, I will help you out in any way I can on what to expect.

Translation- If you want to preview something at Redstone that isn't up for bid yet, take WM with you or have him preview it for you.
