Glow Plug behavior

Hello,

I have a 1986 CUCV m1009 and have a question regarding glow plug cycling behavior.

Basically, is the following normal?

It is about 15-20 degrees F outside. When I turn on the key to on position, the wait light will come on and go out like it normally should. The engine does start but I have noticed that the glow plugs will cycle again with the engine running 2 or 3 more times. Is this normal? When this is happening the wait light is not on. I can hear the clicking and have verified the glow plugs are getting power with a test light when the engine is running. Again, it only does it a few times when first started and then it is fine.

Thanks

Yes, the glow plugs are designed to cycle a few more times after a cold start to promote better fuel burning to lower emissions and improve idle.
