Glowplug Relay "chatter".........

I have a question about a friends M1028.

When he turns the key on the glow plug light comes on [but it is dim] and the the glow plug relay starts to chatter.

He waits about ten seconds and tries to start it. The glow plug light goes off and the relay stops chattering but the engine will not turn over.... much less start.

Turn the key to off, then back to on and the same things happen again.

1.. TM's have been consulted and nothing could be found.
2.. ALL grounds have been checked and cleaned.
3... Both batteries check excellent condfition.

Any ideas????

Thanks in advance.

could be batt cables, cheap insurance anyway...and get one of those wire cleaner hootices for the batts/cables while your at it, maybe even that red spray on terminal sealer for when the jobs done. I did all of it on mine and it makes all the difference.:-D

Yep, turns out one of the batteries was indeed bad.

They had both showed 12.7 volts and the spec gravity had showed them both fully charged.............

........... BUT, when load tested.... one did check bad.

Guess that goes to show things are not always as they seem at first.

Thanks men..........

Hey guys,
never trust a batterie over 5 years old. Warranty is something like 2 years, maximum 3 years. Somtimes you find batteries with 5 years warranty. Over that age never trust them!

This I have to disagree with. I have consistantly gotten 10+ years from my batteries. In my 93 bronco it still had the factory battery in it in 2005 when I gave it to a friend in need. My 88 F-250, I replaced the fact with a Die-hard gold in @94-95 for preventative maint and ran that untill 2007. The truck mostly sat in 06, so I figure that killed the battery. If you regularly use the vehicle and keep the charge/start system maintained, the batt should last a long time.

Yea the old dirty dodge has its original battery, after 6yrs of use its starting to wear down. It will be replaced soon enough when funds become available!
