Going back in Forum Time

Spent several hours going back through the older and really old threads.

Found a LOT of good info and pictures on parts, problems, etc.

It was funny to see the topics transition from different trucks depending on the year.


And the mods are correct on using the search.

There were TONS of dupllicated threads.


I enjoyed it since I'm still new and haven't even had my M925A2 for a year yet.

Often I go back and look at questions I've posed and it makes me laugh. I should have read the manual sooner. Yeah, there is a ton of great info buried within.

So how can we make sure that info pops up easier? Buried is not a good state of being in.

And please don't say "search function". With so many threads using so much words repeatedly, you have to be a search engine black hat to get really to the deep buried stuff. Maybe we should start include tag words in the title and use post titles for posts containing useful info as opposed to post like "great, would like to have it also".

People say to me all the time "You're so good at search, how do you find this stuff?"

It's sad but the best way to be good at searching is to read all of it.

When I joined SS, I'd try to read at least 2 or 3 pages of threads, starting with the oldest and just slowly work my way forward.

When I got a mule, I read all the Mule threads here and on G503.

Reading everything out there gives you a background on the threads and a better idea of what to search for.

Search for "threads started by" of a user that has your truck model. There will be tons of threads to read.

When I got my M62 i spent about 6 months reading 2 hours each night. I still do this often. The latest project was looking for roll bars for the M1009. Not much on that subject.

I would search using google as follows:

GOOGLE SEARCH TEXT

"M62 site:steelsoldiers.com"

Then read until I found something more detailed, then the search would look like:

M62 Holly Carb site:steelsoldiers.com

After a while you can find anything and there are some tremendous treasures in these old threads.
