Going to look at a Deuce tomorrow

I went through the GL headache for about 1/3 of the purchase price the OP is looking at on my truck. I'm also in the process of buying another through GL for about 2/3 of what the OP stated. Once it's titled, passes a -20 inspection and repair as required by the TM, I'll get about what the OP is looking for. Of course, transportation from Georgia will not be cheap so maybe he's halfway there. I'm buying this truck for a local man who does not want to deal with the hassle of the Govn't and just want's a running Deuce. I've even offered to set him up a GL account so that he can save money on the deal and he's not interested. I guess I'm not the average flipper but I may get into the hobby of "flipping" trucks. I'll of course sell only running and checked over equipment unlike quite a few that I've seen doing "rattle can" camo jobs for profit. That last part irritates me when I see these trucks right outside the back gate going for quite a few dollar's over the cost of the truck at auction and a spray paint job (New Paint!!!!).

mmmmm Sandcobra I'd delete part of that post if I were you. Unless of course you are filling out the EUC truthfully (that you intend to sell the truck and know the buyers name and all that.)

Sewerzuk, even if it is difficult, you can get a OR Title with an SF97. One thing that needs to be there is that the SF97 is originaly issued to a person who is selling you the truck, it's current owner. He has to sign a bill of sale to you/your company, properly referencing the same form SF97. With this you go to MVD/DMV office in your town, and present the SF97, and the Bill of sale to them, pay the fee ( depending on the category you choose for weight or Historic Vehicle) and you get your title and plates. Occasionally they will want an Vin Verification done by state police or MVD/DMV inspection, to verify that your truck goes with the SF97 and bill of sale you are giving them. If the form sf97 was issued to GL, or someone else, and that person did not do the title paperwork to properly sell/transfer the truck to the current owner, or two...or three, then you have a problem. If you can get all the former owners from the form SF97 to you, to do a bill of sale to the next person in line, and the last one to you, then you are OK, but the MVD/DMV may charge you additional fees for being late or some other penalty they feel you deserve that day. If you can not locate or obtain a matching bill of sale from all the previous owners of the truck before you, from SF97 on, then you got several choices: A bonded Title process, or International Title Service in NV. For a M35 truck depending on the year, it will cost you approximately $380.00 + NV will get you a license plate also included. Then you have to "Domesticate" the truck to Oregon, by going through the OR Vin verification, and exchanging your NV title and Plates for OR, and pay normal OR out of state transfer in fees.

Hope this helps some.

KsM715,
Appreciate the advice, the buyer will be a Retired MSGT of USMC Glory who is now serving as a truck driver moving loads around on base. He served his USA Proud and he'd love to have a Deuce. He's also a Civil Service employee with a favorable background check which is a requirement of the job. He want's a Deuce so that he can paint it OD semi gloss and put a "Duck Cloth Canvas???" on the back and "roll the sides up???". That's how he told me his truck looked in Vietnam and he's trying to recreate that replica in real life. More power to him, I'll recreate mine in Desert Tan when the time comes to replicate my past and use my Deuce as the means.

Not questioning you, or the man your helping out. I just know how the Govt is when it comes to their paperwork and how people like to fudge it, even just a little. Even with the best intentions.

I just dont like to supply the exacutioner the rope he uses to hang me with. If you know what I mean.

Well, I bought it. I actually bid on a deuce on GL up in Ft. Lewis, but it ended up selling for $4000. That price convinced me that I should be willing to spend $2k-$2500 for this rig, even without the bed. I managed to talk the guy down to $1700. I didn't get the bed, but he still had the taillights. I did have to spend some time piecing the wiring harness back together because he cut the wiring (intending to put a wrecker body on it). I managed to get it all back together, threw some mudflaps on it, got a trip permit, and drove the couple of hours to my shop. This morning I took it to my local DMV and got plates and registration for it. There was no problem with the original SF-97 and a couple of bills of sale.
Thanks to everybody for the advice here...you can add me to the deuce owner's club :driver:

no title ____ no buy
?

Last week, before I bought it, I got copies of the paperwork the seller had and called the DMV office. They told me that I had everything necessary to get a title/registration, and that was confirmed this morning when I took the truck to the DMV.

I bought it with just the SF-97 and the GL transfer form, and a bill of sale and there was no problem with the application for title/registration.
I should have the title in my name in a couple of weeks.

Sounds like you got a good deal. I have seen dropside beds for sale around 500.00 before.

Congratulations on your new truck, good price for a running/driving one, that you can localy take home. With the proper bills of sale, SF 97 works Ok, depending on you DMV office and their understanding of the process. Enjoy your Deuce !

Bob it, you already got the bed off thats half the job.
I don't know about HALF the job...
But the thought had crossed my mind. After spending a couple of days looking at it, I've decided that I really like the look when the rears are singled up on a set of 46's. That's the route I think I will go...
Ordered the materials I need to build a flatbed. Work willing, I'll have the bed done in a couple of weeks.
In the mean time, I have a box full of oil and fuel filters and a few hours to do some PM on my new rig.
Now I just need to find a local source for some surplus wheels and tires. ?
