Yes, I have a negative comment. Put you a$$ in that passenger metal seat with that thin cushion and ride around the desert for five days straight with about 2 hours of down time every 24 hrs and only eating MRE's. Tell me if that seat feels good and if you do or don't have roids?

I've certainly felt your pain, but those days are long behind me. The Hi-Back seat actually does make a world of difference though - it's no Cadillac, but it's definitely better than the equivalent of a stadium seat.

I drove my GMV to a local Sonic for a milkshake the other day prior to visiting a family friend. When we pulled in, my son commented about how there were a couple of "Army men" sitting in the dining area outside, which I noted. When I pulled up to one of the order kiosks, I noticed from around the kiosk a young Sgt in ACU's cautiously walking towards my truck, so I acknowledged him prior to ordering thinking that he'll likely have a few questions.

As the Sgt gets closer, dead serious, he quietly asks "What are you doing?". So without giving it a second thought, I said that I was grabbing a quick lunch for my son and I. He was obviously taken aback by that answer and had to think about it before asking if it was my personal vehicle, so I explained to him how I bought the vehicle at auction and that it's very much mine, yada, yada, yada. At that point you can tell he was relieved - he said that he thought I was taking one of the trucks from the local reserve center for a joyride with my kid and that he was about to lose it. He then apologized profusely and went back to eating with his family.

I'm not gonna lie in that I had to chuckle about it afterwards......

This is why I dont like personal vehicles with original unit or similar numbers / markings on them.

That's not a bad idea, but I suppose that if the law got involved, that's why you'd have a Registration and Insurance Card plus a Tag. The preponderance of the evidence would certainly be on your side. I haven't got around to marking up my vehicle just yet though, so it was essentially naked and still caught the attention of someone.

aside from the normal reactions. I have noticed that jeepers wave quite often and seem interested in the vehicle and hummer h2 and 3 drivers seem to avoid contact. and if someone asks about the mileage I tell em it gets 35mpg on a newly designed experimental engine.

I was in a local hardware store. A young man came up to me and asked it that was my hmmwv in the parking lot. He told me he was in the National Gaurd and wondered where I got such a nice one. He said his unit has 7, and none that nice. In fact he claimed only one of the 7 was drivable. The rest were waiting on parts for repairs and had been for months.

why feel guilty? Some units actually use there trucks, others such as HQ trucks and REMF's don't.
NMC trucks can sit on the line for long periods due to various reasons, most of which are lack of parts
or lack of money. The supply chain is as slow as ever.

I hate the people that stop to ask me what kind of fuel mileage it gets. You don't purchase any military truck cause of its MPG rating.

When someone asks "How many MPG does it get?" in a demeaning way, I usually give a smarta** answer like "Some of them".

We are way out in the sticks, But occasionally people driving past often stop and stare, others ask questions, those that ask questions are invited to look around the collection. Everyone so far has been well impressed. The other Saturday after repositioning some of the vehicles to make room for a new acquisition, trucks were out the shop awaiting re-positioning back inside..I was busy lining stuff up, and most always get the kids to drive as I (prefer) to guide them into position. Whist I was awaiting for the wrecker coming round from the concrete apron park, with 'benni m45' driving..A car (had) pulled up behind me (as I thought cautiously waiting for the approaching M62 Wrecker coming up the narrow road) I did not even look round (concentrating on the approach of the wrecker to guide it into position and for the reversing manoeuvrer. As the reversing would require careful (nay, precise) guidance I walked backward past the 'car' to have the wrecker (benny m45 driving) come past it to better line it up. I looked to the side to thank the occupants for their patience with a "hang two" "we will past in a mo' and out of your way. (OOPS!) Police car with two 'inhabitants' aboard.)
"great stuff no worries" sez mister man, "Fantastic collection, Can we have a look around?" . "Sure thing", sez I, Guided benni m45round the car, Halted him, Pointed at the barn doors, gave our (known learned) 'working gesture'. benny reversed down and back between parked trucks, Into the workshop I lined him up between tight lanes of trucks in a 'one shot park'. ('Poleeki'! in attendance). " absolutely amazing" was the only comment, and a guided tour, with long friendly iformative discussions ensued between all. Ending in handshakes all round.
They promised to provide an escort to the Blackwater ( A new large military event 30 miles away) for the FV432 armoured personnel carrier in May..( And also keep to regular drive by's, especially at night times.) Good to have them 'on board'.

I've had my HMMWV for 15 years now and have experienced everything from total amazement to total a$$****s. 99.9% of the time it's all positive, the other .1% is amazing. My Lexus driving father in law asked me why anyone would want one of these trucks. I simply replied that I didn't know why anyone would want a gold Lexus! The truth is there are 2 mutually exclusive groups of HMMWV drivers out there. And I'm not talking about H2 or H3 drivers because they're not driving HMMWVs at all. The drivers who want mil-spec trucks couldn't care less about leather seats or a booming stereo. The HMMWV is a loud, hot, fuel guzzling beast that's designed to take you anywhere you want to go. The H1 driver is looking for comfort and something he can chase a skirt in. Two different groups of people for sure!

Then there's law enforcement. In my ambulance! He made me completely unload it by the side of the road and after an hour realized there was nothing he could arrest me for and simply said "have a nice day" and drove off. Dip$hit! You can't imagine how much stuff you can load into an M996A1! But we drive on and relish the good will we generate by smiling and waving to all the children, old or young.

In my ambulance! He made me completely unload it by the side of the road and after an hour realized there was nothing he could arrest me for and simply said "have a nice day" and drove off. Dip$hit! You can't imagine how much stuff you can load into an M996A1! But we drive on and relish the good will we generate by smiling and waving to all the children, old or young.

I'm normally the guy rolling my eyes at all of the armchair lawyers and guys filming videos of giving police as difficult of a time as possible during a would-be ordinary traffic stop; however, I really would have resisted on this one. Unless you gave him real probable cause on something that you did and you were just trying to do anything to slip your way out of it, he had no right to search your vehicle. Without a warrant or real probable cause, he needed to just go pound sand and if he wasn't happy with that answer, it needed to be escalated so one of his supervisors could tell him to go pound sand.

I agree Simp. I could care less about the mileage of an MV. But was curious and checked it. I get 11.6 MPG driving mixed highway and normal roads. M998 6.5L 4 man normal ragtop setup. People comment that it's probably single digits. Now I can say it's not.

At the moment, I get right at 12 in my 4L80E doing city/highway mix, and 12.6 doing 60 on a highway. Just a 2 door with troop benches.
