Good place to get engine/block?

It did go for a good price, but in your defense, the average between the two recent 3116 sales at auction is over $7500. So I'll still give you the nod for knowing the price of 3116's. Someone got a brand new high HP motor for a steal.

um...looks like that same engine that recently sold at auction is back up for sale, on the fleabay, for 3x the price...if anyone needs a 290hp 3116, and you have $15,000 to spare... unbelievable.

I have not swapped one but have removed both, I believe you could pull one out and put the other one in and all the connections would be the same.

Turbo and fuel injector setting, possible fuel governor.

The 290 HP turbo is different from the 225 however caterpillar has supersceeded the 225 turbo to the 290 turbo as a replacement part.

That's what I was hoping to avoid. I don't have one of those.

I do it with a forklift. You can use a big a frame and chain hoist. I have an attachment that clamps on the fork ends I chain the engine to it. Years ago befor I had a forklift I would have the engine ready to pull and call a local tow truck company with the older style boom wrecker to come down and lift it out onto a pallet. Cost 100 bucks I think. Once it's on the ground you can use a big engine hoist to support it. If the replacement engine was prepped and ready to go you could probably do the same to install it. Or rent a small piece of equipment for the day.

Have your new engine ready. Call a local wrecker / lift company. They you can do a R/R on one charge. If you cannot do that , you can rent a fork lift.... problem with that is it take LONG forks. You can buy a fairly heavy H beam around $500 and own it when finished. Or resale it and get your funds back..

Not yet, but tax return time is upon us.

My forks are 5 feet. I can drive the forklift up close say 5 inches to the truck and with the end attachment it works fine. I have a skytrak but its more work to maneuver the big thing into position. Easier with the basic forklift. The fork end attachment came from the skytrak.
