Gooseneck set up

Was looking for some info if anyone has made or done a setup for a gooseneck trailer. I am sure I have a bit of fab work ahead of me . Just wanted to get some ideas or see what others may have done.

Do you mean a setup where you can pull a gooseneck using the pintle hitch?

If so there have been a couple posted on here but my search skills suck.

Maybe one of the search gurus will post a link to one or more of them.

I have a standard tractor trailer 5th wheel behind the shorter bed on my M927A2.

I have an adapter that has a kingpin which can be swapped into the hitch holder on my gooseneck trailer so it can be pulled by a standard 5th wheel.

I have a removable gooseneck adapter which reveals the standard kingpin also. But my pickup has a b&w flip. Was wondering if anyone had tried a goose tow set up. Only to avoid having to always switch it out. Also the goose adaptor on my trailer is adjustable. So that helps me a bit. Mind if you post a pic of your set up?

I have seen thoes for like 250. But I may have to slide my 5th wheel saddle back more . I will know more next weekend when I put the truck next to my trailer I guess

So you have a civi gooseneck trailer and want to pull it behind your 5-ton...?

Depending on the comparison of; trailer weight/truck capacity and heights; hitch adjustment to frame or 5th wheel, there are many options.

Pics of your truck/trailer to see above specs would help.

If your trailer is "pick-up" sized then you could get away with a 2&5/16" ball mounted just inside the fifth wheel ramps - that slides into a small length of receiver tube. If you have a really heavy trailer - you'll need to use the fifth wheel with an adapter.

We drilled a hole for a 2 and 5/16" goose ball at the very end, where Zebedee is talking, just to get this trailer out of the back yard. This is a very tall trailer, with an adjustable goose neck... no way could we get it near the 5th wheel.




I also had to pull all the valve cores out to deflate the tires and get it out, but that's a different story.

That looks close to what I am trying to do. The civi trailer I have is not near as big. It is only a 32foot trailer. I haul it with my pick up to where my 5 ton is stored. The only reason is well. It gets really hot out here And the trip is about 150 miles each way. I will try and upload a picture of my pick up (1-ton f350) and trailer . On a side note when I hootmy trailer to 5 ton it will only go about 5-10 miles each way with no traffic .

One other idea I had ...lazy as it may be. Was use a plate of 3/4 or 1 thick steel. Put it in the place of the ramps. And just mount the ball in the center of that.

I just went and had a 40k plate made. I think for the plate, bolted on, and an electric brake unit ran it costs me like $300? that was back in 2011 behind my M61.I had the plate mounted a little rear of the center of the axles incase I wanted to add a 5th wheel plate. You can pretty much mount a goose plate anywhere on the back of the 5 ton and it will pull it. No matter what you put on it. An average goose trailer that is 30ft overall is around 8,000lbs.

this was a cheap way of doing it bought the plate at tractor supply, drilled the holes where the 5th wheel was. also did a 24v to 12v 7pin connector http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?32440-M818-24volt-to-12volt-trailer-lights

Keep in mind that this was very temporary. Also, we started taking it apart, so bolts are out... they were in when we hauled the trailer out of my back yard.

I'd say get it as close to the wheels as you can.
