In July 2009 Gov. Patterson signed into law for the first time and only time in NYS, a state hwy dedicated to the men and women wno served in Vietnam. NYS Route 38 will now be designated as the Vietnam Veterans Highway of Valor.

A police escorted Tribute Ride has been planned on October 17th. The ride starts in Owego and ends in Sterling. A stop is planned in Groton (home of Medal of Honor Recipient, 2LT Terrance Graves, USMC). It leaves Groton at 1:00. We plan to drive our jeep and join the parade there. Meeting place is American Legion on Main St. in Groton.NY

Bikes, cars, trucks, military vehicles and helicopters welcome.

The parade will also stop in Montezuma ( home of Medal Honor Recipient, SP4 robert F. Striker, US Army).

Contact for American Legion, Groton: Dan Baker, 607-229-8153

When I spoke to Dan Baker he told me that he hoped to put the military vehicle in front.

Please pass this info on.

Hope to see you there, Melanie Sharpsteen (315-730-9985)

Makes me speechless - and this is NOT a political statement not an indication of one in an incubation stage - it is just about time and owing a heap more than this.
Thank you for the information.

Hmm......There's about a 8-10 of us MVers who live near Rt 38 in and around Auburn. I'll have to see if some of us can make it. We've sure got enough different kinds of vehicles appropriate to the era.

I wonder why I missed this in the local papers and TV news? Must be slipping....

Lance

EDIT. It' the opening day of bow season for deer but I can still hunt for 4-5 hours and make it! I may have to hunt in my old OG-107 jungle fatigues, though....And, yes, I can still fit in 'em.

Bill Chandler, The Blue Knight, 607-222-6357
Barry Langerlan, The Blue Knights, 315-496-2921

I spoke to Dan Baker after hearing from you, Tom. He was pleased to hear that so many military vehicles are joining the parade. Sounds as though we may be leading the parade.

Thanks for spreading the word. My husband. Ed is a Vietnam Vet and served 25 years in the Army and Air Force. Route 38 goes through our small town of Locke also. I lost a family member in the war and other family members came home with injuries.

We feel as though this an important ride.

I am planning on making the entire run from Owego to Sterling and I hope we can get some more MV owners to commit to doing this.

It is about 100 miles overall.

I know many who are veterans of Viet Nam and I am pleased I can do something to honor their service..

got this today, looks big:

VFW is on Main St. in Groton. Everyone will be gathering across the steet at the Chevy garage. There will be so many vehicles there that you won't be able to miss it. We will be there about noon.

I sent the info to one of the NY Penn members, Bob Messersmith. I met him at the Little York car show also. They will probably join the parade in Owego.

This is going to be a huge parade. I have been spreading the news.
