Government Liquidation pre sale inspections

I am kind of curious what other locations allow. If the truck will start on its own at Riley, we can fire it up, but cannot move it. That I understand, nothing like some idiot running around crashing a five ton into a bunch of parked property.

If the batteries are dead though, no jumping or swapping batteries to see if the engine will run, had horrible knocks, or spews liquids. So if the last guy to preview wants a better chance at a good truck, he just leaves the switch on for the next guy to have a dead truck to look at. I do not know that happens, but I have seen some with switches on when I got there.

We can crawl around, check fluids, look for leaks, but no plug removal, like to check differential fluid levels or stick a finger in the trans oil to look for silver flakes.

Sound like some places have a much different set of rules. Once purchased, a pre inspection can be done by the buyer or his shipper to see what the item needs to move. Just curious.... Glen

No knee pads, maybe I should have asked what kind of beer they prefer. I am pretty sure showing up in a bikini would have gotten me thrown off the place, if not, I do not want to be there anyway! It is better than it was, the last guy would not let me try to start anything.

Westech all has changed out at Riley since you left. The DRMO guys put the GL guys on a short leash. You have to have an escort with you in the yard now and DRMO won't let them use their big fork truck and the GL fork can't go in the back (east) lot. I used to bring my own batteries and a slave out there, not anymore.

When I went to Riley to preview before the March 2010 auction, I was able to walk around and check what I wanted. After I won a truck, I went back to check it out in detail. My friend Allan came along to help me out. We checked about everything we could look at and all of the lube fluids. The guys at Riley aren't that hard to work with.

When I picked up the truck, we fired it up, checked with Robert (GL guy), and drove off. They are good people.

I did not have any trouble with Robert or Daniel. In fact I wanted to grab the jerk that was there from U Ship and throw him out of the state. Robert took way more abuse off of that guy than any job should expect. I was just curious what the norm is, if I wanted to go to OK City for instance...

I did see a lot of fork lift damage back there in that east lot. Some of that is down right ugly and some buyers are going to be disappointed. The photos were taken before the damage. Glen

Ft Sill allows NO INSPECTIONS before or after the sale. Not a GL but a base rule as the trucks/trailers are stored a base maintenance yard.

OKC hasn't had any trucks since they moved to the new location. As far a other items, they are stored on shelves. You schedule an appointment, walk in and they point to the triwall on the shelf. Not really an inspection.

I never have problems with previews or pickups at Redstone (Alabama) but I have been known to grease the skids with a box of doughnuts once in a while.

They will help you slave off trucks but you can only move them back and forth to check tranny and brakes. You can do small stuff on the yard but they have a big lot just outside the fence and they will help you get your prize out the gate so you can do other stuff.

Teresa and her crew there are great to work with.

I don't have problems getting on base since I have a miltary ID...your milage may vary.

The GL guys at Riley are great, Daniel told me the last time I was out there that the DRMO guys will move stuff around during and after the auction. I have seen them forking without regards to putting ding and dents. My M105 was moved 3 times (that I know of) waiting for the EUC to clear, the last time the air cylinder got broken off.
GL Mike out at Jefferson City Mo, at inspection will let you start but not move and in the past let me and others do a complete Dash10 before check and topping off of fluids before firing up a win.

When I went to Jefferson it was Mike Snell and he was fantastic to work with. You could not ask for a more cooperative, polite and informative guy. I never tried a preview there, but he was top notch. Glen

Mike let me check out whatever truck I wanted I helped him out several times with questions about mechanical issues some trucks had so he could accurately describe them in auctions.
