Thanks for the interesting post. Wonder what the engine was? The vehicles seem almost too good to be true, as in they might have been very heavy, thirsty and expensive to build.

I bet there is at least one sitting in someone's barn, field, grown up in the woods behind somebody's house, maybe back in the back of a closed down museum covered in 1/2" of dust. Just forgotten about for decades, or rotting away because some redneck just knows that he has " A old rusty armored car" on the back 40, and him and uncle Jimbo caint figgur out wut kinda motor is in there so they can fix it, but they thought about putting a 454 in it once...

Given the roads of the ETO, 35mph is pretty much the max that could possibly be used. 100mph would be totally useless, even absurd.

Don't know what ETO is and I can't find anything on the tires used on prototype.
If it started with a bigger more powerful engine it could be down-powered, easier than up-powering.
Anyhow I have to go look up all the other things were not contracted for the "future effort" as deemed unnecessary.
Perhaps the heirs at the Tucker Museum could tell us.

ETO was European Theater of Operations. That was the armed forces designation for the war in Europe. I also agree that they could've put a governor on the speed, and not have divulged the top speed. Keep the GOV in the dark... He He

Well if anyone knows where this piece of history is or what "truly" happened to it. On occasion, I have worked with one of his great grandsons and have discussed this incredible vehicle in the past and the fact that it has been the ever elusive "unicorn" of his grandfathers creations...

They and I know it existed, but it has been a quest of Mike and his brother Sean to locate all of the parts, pieces, cars, and prints associated with their great grandfather. It's not about possessing these amazing dreams and creations, it's about knowing where they are or in some cases what happened to them. The combat car falls into the latter as they don't know the end story regardless of the time spent searching... Was it destroyed, is it in a warehouse somewhere in a crate, or in someone's private collection.... That was my point.

And the incumbent brass rejected it; not uncommon:

- I was reading last year the story of Germany's blitzkreig (I cannot remember the title and author), and learned there essentially that the concept initially was totally rejected by the Wehrmacht High Command, including Hitler himself.

And essentially Rommel, Guderian, and von Manstein (junior officers all), simply pushed their theory ahead anyway up to the point where Hitler finally recognized the resounding results, and had to concede; finally giving it his endorsement.

The Old School never likes conceding brilliance to any young whippersnappers. It's a very old story (found in any era, and among all nations).
