As our units were pulling out of VN. The Gun trucks were turned over to ARVN units. Most of the guys witnessed the removal of the armored boxes and just used the truck for just a truck. Then some boxes were cut and the steel was used for other uses.

Thankfully one of the commanders had the hindsight to save one. That would be "eve". She was rebuilt by the company mechanics, her guns were crated up and she with an escort of 2 other trucks, was driven to Qui Nhon and put aboard ship for the states.

Jason,

I believe the article you are referring to came out in one of the recent issues of Army Motors. It talked about how the Vietnamese have been using irrigation water for the cooling system thus burning up the bearings in the water pumps. So they leak…bad. As oppsed to fixing the vehicles (which would only fail again due to the dirty water being used), they have rigged up these giant additonal coolant tanks to dump coolant into the system as needed. I'll see if I can find it tonight.

Also discussed how many if not most fo the trucks have been converted to straight air brakes.
