I like that extended drain tube. I found a good idea from fellow Detroit Diesel owners in reference to "slobber tubes," which I plan on doing with my DD 4-53T and now I'm thinking of doing it as you have.

Take a short piece of 3 or 4-inch ABS plastic drain pipe available from hardware stores, cap each end, and have the drain tubes empty into this catch container. You can add a drain petcock and a pressure relief valve to it, so you can drain any runoff or "slobber" into a hand-held container instead of having it blown all over your undercarriage (or driveway).

Great ideas Hank, thanks for sharing!
I have a 2 quart one on my 8V71 in my Coach I empty it every oil change, It is a very responsible thing to do, with a engine that does it normally!

Catch up time on my modifications.

1) I took final pictures of the power steering install.
2) I took a final picture to show how I tied the 1/4" OD poly tube vent system into the air filter housing.
3) Today I replaced the transfer case vent with a compression fitting elbow and connected it to the transmission and axle vent system.
4) I added pictures of the WIX coolant filter install I completed last weekend.

As always, pictures are on my website. HanksDeuce.com "click modifications".

I had time today to fabricate an air compressor intake "fording kit". Simply connect the intake tube on the air compressor to the tube that sticks out the back of the air filter housing.

As always, many more pictures are on my website. HanksDeuce.com "click modifications".

I tore down my front/rear axles, cleaned them up, and replaced the seals, boots, etc. Black Rock Fab sent me a front/rear disc brake kit, so I removed the factory drum brake setup including the backing plates. Those were some tough rivets to take out on the rear plates. I reached a snag on reassembly because my bearing races (cups) all showed signs of wear. I will update my site with all of the pictures once the disc brakes are installed. For now, here are a few pics of my old bearing races.

Well, the disc brakes are completely finished now. All that is left are custom braided stainless steel brake lines to go from the factory tees at each axle to the 2001 F550 rear caliper at each corner.

Here are a few teaser pictures. As usual all of my pictures are on my website. http://www.hanksdeuce.com/ "Click on Modifications". There are 104 pictures for this disc brake conversion!

Hank have you thought about using a fuel tank switching valve off of a five ton tractor? Mounts in stock location in cab and has six ports, easy to hookup and operates easily from drivers seat. I wouldn't run a return to your small tank it will get oil pumped in and it won't hurt anything to just return to the large tank.

I am curious as to what the overall height is when its sitting on the 53s?
The highest part of the cab is now 114.5 inches with the 53s. I scrapped the idea of the external cage and A/C because I purchased an in-cab A/C and heater. The cage should fit inside the cab just fine.

Nice! Glad you scrapped to exo-cage. I like the roll cage myself. Also was kicking around the idea of a roll bar in the bed, like the pick-up truck style but serving a purpose other than to hold lights and look cool. Maybe someone with photo shop skills could mock something like that up just to see how it looks.

if you have 2 tanks you have to switch the supply AND the return. if you don't the tank will quickly be drained into the other tank which may be too full to hold it. valves are cheap and easy to get. google anderson brass in SC

He was talking in a early post of using a small starter tank of straight diesel to start and shutdown on. And if you don't over fill your main tank to begin with it will hold a little extra, and you don't want to put the thick stuff back in your little tank.

missed that, ok on shut down but there is a pretty good flow from the return so timing it just right will be difficult. as for starting, how long to run it before it is warm enough to switch fuels? in 5 minutes a lot of diesel will flow into the main tank leaving the 'starting' tank low.

What happened to the lines you had made in Mississippi?
Jeff, the custom stainless lines I had made by Connector Specialists in Pearl, MS were used on the factory deuce drums. I used them to replace the old rubber hoses at each wheel cylinder up front, as well as the required extended lines from the frame to each axle tee fitting. I'm guessing because of liability they don't build brake lines anymore. They did test mine to 3000 psi and the sheaths were stamped DOT, so they are legal. I now need new custom lines to go from each axle tee fitting to the 2001 F550 rear caliper at each hub. Although the tee fitting is the same each caliper has a 3/8" banjo fitting. I found a company that may be able to do it. I'll know more tomorrow.
