Has anyone had a fender bender?

I would not technically call it a fender bender as the only damage to my M1009 was some starched paint on the grille guard. As for the Cadillac Escalade that hit me she have a nice fender bender on her $60K SUV. I have liability only with uninsured motorist compensation, so if the other driver did not have coverage not being my fault I am covered still (well I hope).

So what happened is that I was inside a roundabout with the right of way and the Caddy did not yield to me. So she hit my M1009 in the passenger corner making contact with the edge of the grille guard. I would say damage to the SUV was at least $3000 and mine $4 for a can of spay paint. The officer that stopped looked at the video and could see it was the other drivers fault. I do not know if she received a citation for failure to yield, but do not think so as no damage to claim on my M1009

Oh yeah, for some reason I put my drive camera in my truck that day and recorded the accident. It is a simple Sanyo camcorder mounted to a RAM mount.

Being as it was not your fault you can be pretty picky with the at fault drivers insurance. You don't have to use there body shop. You can get your own estimate, you do not have to except used or rebuilt parts, unless there is no other options available.

I need to write some reminders down and put them in my vehicles kinda like an accident check list. I know I am not the only person that forgets little things like to get the vin and pics of the other car/driver.
The reason I added this was that I was informed that there has been a rash of incidents in which the person was not who the ID said they were. Also the reason for the VIN, vehicles that showed up for repair were not the ones in the accident per the license plate number. I'm sure this has been happening over the years but has gotten out of hand lately. Getting the VIN and pics could potentially save your tookus!

I didn't know they allowed FMVs in South Lake. :)

Nice Camera footage. I've been thinking of installing one. I had a lady fail to yield over in Arlington, TX and took off after hitting me. I followed her and called police. I got her plate number when she stopped to pick something up at a warehouse location and took some pictures while waiting for police. When she came out, she cursed me out and ran again, so I just waited for police so I could file a report. Police tracked her down later that week and she actually told the story exactly like it happened thinking she was justified. (i.e., she drove into my lane and I "failed" to yield to her. ) Officer informed her that she had to yield and gave her a ticket for failure to yield and another ticket for leaving the accident.

Many street intersections now have video cameras recording folks. Was the video that the cop watched yours, the spy camera or both?

I was in an accident a couple of years ago. A new teenage girl driver forgot to use the brakes when she hit my Jeep. I was stopped behind 3 other cars, at a red light. Nobody was in the lane to left or right of me, still I got hit. The responding female cop was not a nice person, until the teneney bopper admitted it was her fault. **** near got a ticket for being stopped, properly, at a red light. Go figure. She wouldn't look at the camera for nothing.

The way it works is you take your car to get estimated and the threshold is normally 70%. But if they tell you it Is totaled you always have the option of buying it back. For example if they say it is worth 2k and salvage is 500. If you decide to keep it they give you a check for 1500 and you keep the truck. And if you don't want they keep the truck for salvage and give you 2k.

I guess my concern would be that I can buy the Civilian version of the truck for cheaper then the FMV version of the truck. (based on prices I see here).

Am I mistaken, or are the FMV versions of the trucks priced differently then what the insurance company will find in their Blue Book?

i had a young girl run a stop sign and ran right over her hood in my 42 weapons carrier .her insurance co paid the full bill for repairs.tell the other insurance co you want the truck back the way it was before it was hit.

I have not seen any FMV in any pricing guides. I'm going to guess that if it is not too bad then they will fix it. The parts are readily available on the civilian market. Prolly salvage parts.

I think you are correct. No way they are going to total it short of some serious damage to the truck.

I was thinking, in a case where the insurance attempted to total a FMV for less then the true value before the wreck, we would be able to ask them to find an equal or better quality replacement vehicle based on their estimate.

I had someone pull out of a parking spot right in front of me, and I nailed her 2001 Dodge Caravan on the front right side. Didn't even penetrate the CARC on my M1009, but she had a bit of a mess on her hands. One of the nice things about these MV's is they're quite a bit tougher than the average passenger vehicle. This past summer, a huge hailstorm hit Chicago. Baseball-sized hail dented up every car in the city. Except my M1009, which was parked out in the open and handily repelled every hailstone, leaving absolutely no trace of damage. You'd think they'd give us a break on our insurance because of this, but no....

Some old knacker pulled out in front of me 3 years ago in a Ford Escort.Needless to say he won't be doing it again in that car.I hit him doing about 30 mph.Got him right in the L/H front fender.Bent his Escort like a banana and knocked him onto the other side of the road.The old guy said that he didn't see me.....now,over here the size of a M1009 is twice the size of a normal car.Plus i had my headlights on.All i had was a slight bend in the bumper and a crease in the bottom of the R/H fender.I got the bumper straightened and a new fender out of his insurance company.

I had a good one maybe 8 years or so ago with Velvet (my big M715...before it was too big) when she was still on the D60 &D70 rears. I had JUST gotten my 37x13x16 TSL BOGGERS wedged onto factory wheels and drove from the farm about 37 miles to my apt at the time. Next morning I was driving up the road just lumping along around 35ish and a guy in a GEO ran a stop sign and plowed into the side of me. Last thing I saw before the impact was something catching my eye downward and seeing two straight arms extended to the steering wheel...me looking down through his windshield, then...WHAM!

It was a substantial impact that kicked me sideways by about 6' and three wheels for a short amout of time as there was only one rear tire print for a short time and those of you familiar with TSL BOGGERs will understand that my tread marks were about 14" long as each of the tread blocks on that pass-side tire were getting stretched off onto the road.

To make a long story short, I got the truck under control and stopped in a yard down the street. I had NO problem whatsoever with the lockring disengaging but a sliver of sheet metal cut my driver's side rear tire for a slow barely audible leak. That was my ONLY damage. The GEO, with no exageration, looked as if the front was chopped off in one fell swoop. Pass-side front fender was sheared off just ahead of the front wheel, all of front bumper radiator support...(everything) ahead of the engine was torn off, 1/2 of the battery was still mounted in the car- other half missing, driver's side front fender almost sheared off and hanging on by a thread of metal which one of the fireman later twisted off and threw into the car. The hood was down the street further than I was...oh, and the engine, now front of car, was burping out antifreeze from the radiator hoses and the tranny lines were drooling out a pool onto the road too.

Sadly it was before everyone had cameras on their phones so no pics. The insurance company didn't bat an eye about taking care of anything to me considering I was not at fault and my truck was road legal. The guy in the GEO was beat up but not busted up. He was literally swelling while awaiting the ambulance.

Our parting shots were him asking me not to take offense to him thanking me for being the person he hit because he really could've hurt someone else... ...and me asking him if he saw the front bumper on my truck and how much steel is there (he nodded 'yes') and I told him that if he was 1 or 2 seconds earlier running that light I would have pushed him out that side of his car like cheese through chicken wire. :mrgreen:

I had a lady brake check me in the rain in my 1009..needless to say i smashed in the back of her honda civic caused 7K in damage and i casually drove off after the police came as i had ZERO damage to my rig.. who brake checks a CUCV thinking everything is gonna O.K? still trying to figure that one out i guess the brush guard doesnt give people the hint along with the tow hooks

No vehicle collisions but I've nailed two deer since my front bumper/winch install. 5" square tubing with 1/4" thick walls and we rienforced the CUCV grill gaurd. First deer was the night after the install, small doe and I had enough time to slow it down to around 5mph. The second deer was during the rut and a little spiked buck decided to play chicken with me. He lost, the CUCV won. Didnt even stratch the rattle can paint job on it.

I've got full coverage on my CUCV. I use Armed Forces Ins and they asked me what the value of the truck was, I told them that I had around 10k in it. They asked for pics and I emailed them. She called me back later that afternoon and said that it would'nt be a problem for that much, which really suprised me.

I got in a minor wreck coming back from Haspin in 2009. Lady cut me in my deuce off as I was making a left turn. Her center pillar in her car caught my front bumper and peeled her car open like a beer can all the way back to the rear quarter panel. Damage to my deuce, $100 bumper. Damage to her car, totaled. Wish I took a picture of the damage to her car, but here's the damage to the front bumper.
