Over the last week or so my 1009 will develope a slight lag above 40 mph. It's not constant and it goes away I've noticed it mostly getting on the highway it won't get up to speed even with wide open throttle then it picks up and I'm cruising at 65-70 no problem. I check the transmission fluid and added some injector cleaner yesterday. Any one have any thoughts on what the problem could be? I'd like to fix it before it becomes something bigger.

it almost feels like drag . As far as I can tell the engine sounds fine and it's not burning any more fuel than normal
I've never changed the fuel filter could this be as simple as that?

I'd start with the fuel filter.
I'm sure its been awhile since its been done on that truck.
I'm a fan of installing a spin on fuel filter with the hand primer like I showed you on my M1028.
Another thing that comes to mind is the filter/sock on the sending unit in the fuel tank.
