Heater hose bypass?

I have an M37 that I believe had a heater at some point as I did have the defrost cowl (which is for sale if someone wants it).

The question is that I have a hose that goes from the front of the block to the rear. I am guessing that this was the feed to and from the heater and it was bypassed with a hose. Can I eliminate and cap off those valves and get rid of that hose?

Here are some photos.
