Started last week or that when I noticed it.

When you give it fuel, the vibration seems to subside or is not noticeable.

The 1009 has 78,000 on the clock.

I'm betting its the harmonic balancer but I wanted to get yalls opinion.

What should I look for to see if the balancer is bad?

vibration

What is the idle speed. is it what is specified? To slow, a lot of engines don't run smoothly. Might have bad injector and when you speed up the motor you don't notice the miss. Also could have thrown a weight off of the torque converter. Not unheard of. I have worked on a few engines over the years and never really seen a bad dampener. If it is bed it should be very apparent by looking at it. Good luck.

I stopped by the mechanic shop down the street. The manager there use to work on CUCV's in the Army. He looked at it and felt the vibration and said that, in his opinion, the vibration was all wrong for a bad harmonic balancer. He said the likely source was old rubber in the motor mounts made stiff by the cold weather.

Picked up 2 mounts for $8 each from the parts house and some new belts.

Now if it would only warm up a bit...

I will update this tread with the results.
