Hello and 5ton questions

Hi,
I just signed up last night and am completely new to the subject of military vehicles.
I'm considering a military vehicle as a work/play truck. I was considering a bobbed deuce with a box on the back but I'm 6'4" and was told that the cabs might be too tight and that a bobbed 5 ton might be a better fit and a better ride. I'd rather have a Cummins anyways!
Does anyone have any feedback on this?
Thanks,
Chris

Welcome. Lot's of info of both on here. We try not to repeat everything, every time, and politely ask one to search, and then ask. Check out some of the info. Basics are a 5 ton has a wider cab so can fit an additional person easily, a 5 ton has a faster factory top speed, 2.5 ton has more of the traditional look, 2.5T is manual trans, there are numerous serious points to consider for your personal preference.

Another good option is to try the member map, or attend a local meeting or rally where you can see each, and possibly ride in them to compare. They are very different from each other, and each difference point is not necessarily "better" than another.

I like the LMTV's, you can get them with an insulated box installed, and the cab is definitely the best. It just seems like they are more trouble prone based on my initial reading. If I'm wrong please fill me in. It's definitely the most appealing vehicle in a lot of ways.

Get a 1078 instead of a neutered 5 ton.
I've been looking into that too. I have been given the impression that they're more trouble prone than a 5 ton and I know I can get an Allison in a 5 ton but have no idea who makes the tranny for the 1078's. I definitely like the cabs on the 1078's better and the fact that I can buy one with a wired and insulated box installed.

It's no longer tan though
Nice I like it. How long have you had it and how many miles have you put on it?
Have you had to deal with many issues?
One guy that sells MV's on line told me to stay away from them because things like door handles break and they're hard to replace/find parts for. Is that true? If not I'll jump on one of those!
I'd like to find one that is ready to put a lot of miles on.
I'm a finish carpenter and can dial in the camper.

I have a bobbed M923a2 and I love it. I am 6'-4" and it fits OK. The bobbed truck does three things for me: 1. It manuvers easier 2. I can park it better. 3. Reduced weight to 16k, therefore eliminating a CDL in TX.
