Wow a dealership that sells deuces! That's the first I have heard.. Well if you are looking for those Deuces without any mechanical issues good luck! If you find one without brake issues then it's just a matter of time till you will have some.. If you are not mechanically inclined there are a few surplus guys out there most on this site that will go through a truck and make it as best as possible for you, and customize it if you wish to your specs. That will cost you though... if you are looking for one for less $$ then be prepared to read the TM's and roll up your sleeves because unless you have a mechanic that knows these trucks in and out.. you should learn and teach yourself how to do it. Your average mechanic will not know where to get parts or how to work on it and can possibly do more harm than good and on your dime.. These trucks are a labor of love.. more labor then love at times.. I am about 50:50 right now.. These are not Fords or Chevys.. you can't just bring them anywhere to get fixed.. If that hasn't scared you off then welcome and learn.. I have only been here since November and have learned so much.. Can't believe what I will know next year at this time..

PS: Sorry for the short story..

Sorry you returned the truck. Mine did the same thing, just not on it's maiden voyage. NOTHING was broke. NOTHING was wore out. NOTHING was leaking. I had not bled the brakes sufficiently. I had an air bubble in the airpack. It got warm, air expanded, fluid moves, brakes lock. Having worked on old Fords, I figured it out on the side of the road. Grabbed a wrench and bled the airpack which unlocked the brakes. Maybe I was lucky. YES I THEN WENT HOME AND OPENED THE TM'S AND STUDIED, Then did a PROPER brake bleed. Don't be discouraged but remember YOU are your chief mechanic. Got very lucky on my first deuce. Drove it home approx. 300 mi. not knowing one end from the other. GOD is good. My second deuce, I spent 2 hrs going over, filling and bleeding the brakes just to test drive it. Read and study the TM's and take a toolbox and supplies ie brake fluid, coolant, full set of filters, additional spare primary fuel filter, and some knowledge from the TM's and NEVER SURRENDER NEVER GIVE UP[thumbzup][thumbzup][thumbzup]

Honestly, If you can't afford a tow when needed you may not be able to afford the truck. I've seen it happen several times. People buy a truck from GL or whatever, they have problems (more often than not safety related), then press on anyway because they spent all their money on the MV and don't have any left for a tow or to fix the problems. When people go into a MV and are strapped for cash it causes then to do desperate things they wouldn't normally do.

I hope this doesn't rub anybody the wrong way but this is becoming a recurring problem. I've heard of people pulling MVs off base with chains, driving MVs off base with little to no inspection, and overloaded tow rigs. Most of these problems are caused by lack of funds. I will admit that I've been guilty in the past of most of the stuff mentioned above. I used to think I was invincible and could handle anything thrown at me (and still do a little ;-)) but I've gained a lot more respect to other people on the road. I may can take care off myself just fine but couldn't live with myself if I killed a minivan full of kids. Lately I ask myself "would I do this if my 3 year old daughter was in the truck with me?" Sometimes that causes me to change my ways.:soapbox:

I agree. They are hungry boogers. Feed bills can run high. Keep reading here and the TM's. I myself am a relative newby and there is a wealth of experience on this site. I draw from it every time I log on.
