HELP- Truck whines going down the road. Screeching noise coming from right wheel.

Hey guys, I had my truck at the Rausch Creek meetup offroad event this past weekend. She got a little wet to say the least and on the way home I began hearing a whine that got progressively worse. I could tell it was coming from somewhere towards the front underneath but could not pin point it. At first I thought I had gotten water in the trans or front diff. I drained all that stuff and there wasnt too much water in the trans, transfer case, front diff. Replaced it with new oil and finally got to drive her around, The whine is still there. When I got home I jacked up the front and spun the drivers side wheel, no noise. Now the passenger side, lots of screeches. It seems like it may just be a brake thing, the wheel seems to spin smoothly otherwise. I NEED the truck for Sunday so any ideas to what it could be would be helpful. I wont be able to pull the wheel and drum off till tomorrow night and need to order parts stat

Its my guess that your wheel bearings need to be repacked. But I am no mechanic, my tools are a torch and a big hammer.

Wow this is great news, I originally thought it was something much more serious. Ill pull it out tomorrow and see how bad it is, if it can just be repacked or if I need to cruise down to TNJ Murray Friday. I might as well do the other side too.

After fording like that, you need to go through all your axles. Your bearings will need re-packed and you should wash your brakes off so they don't get chewed up by the mud/dirt in them.

Wow, that water looks like was fun.
Now comes the real fun, packing bearings, cleaning brakes and checking rears/trans fluids for water. :whistle:

SSpanzergrenadier, glad to see you addressing the post fording maintenance. These things aren't that hard. It just takes some time. Judging by our conversations and the other equipment you're familiar with I think you'll be able to handle it.

Panzer, don't pull your tire/wheel of the drum. Just pull your outer drive cap to get to the spindle nuts. Remove them and the outer bearing. Then with the tire just of the ground pull tire, wheel and drum all together then just roll it out of the way.

While you CAN do that, I find it a PITA unless your working on a set of dualls and can use a pallet jack to pull them out of the way.

Alright, thanks to everyones suggestions and tips I got pulled the hubs apart last night. (one side with the wheel on the other with the wheel off lol) The passenger side had more mud then grease and the bearing definitely had some wear but wasnt seized yet. When I pulls the dust cap off the drivers side water even came pouring out! There was still some grease on that side and that bearing can be repacked. Thanks to shenkmen I was able to get new bearings from Napa locally. All in all pulling both sides apart was pretty easy, even for me doing it by myself at 11 pm in my driveway. It was also good to clean off the the shoes and such, this is all something I should have done months ago....Now I know!

Thanks for all the help all, The truck is an essential part of a huge political march/rally/event Sunday in Philly and Im feeling much better today about it being able to be there.
