HEMTT crane cable removal and installation

How does the crane cable connect to the drum of the HEMTT crane?
I am considering buying 3/8 synthetic rope rather than 7/16 stainless steel cable. Has anyone done and documented it?
Still on the fence on synthetic vs stainless steel .

See TM 9-2320-279-24P, Fig. 316, Item #4 WEDGE, WIRE ROPE

The wire rope goes through a slot in the drum side(flange) and then it forms a loop which gets wedged (with part #4) into a pocket - which is integral to the drum.




Certainly not built for synthetic rope...!!

it sounds like one could use a synthetic rope in the same fashion though, or am I missing something?

Unless you plan to just tie the synthetic rope through the hole - NO.
There is no "wedge" for the synthetic to attach to the drum.
