Well--they were 23 total--most were 1985--some 1986--1 was 1987 and 1 was a 1993--all were originally sold at the Atlanta sale--all were used in salt and fresh water for 5 years--They then sat for 3 years--There were no titles and limited paper work to leave the free trade zone they were sitting in--They had replacement Vin plates that looked bad--The total loading, shipping fees "and other fees" into the US is $150,000 for all 23--The vehicles are not DOT certified --For some reason the AFT gets involved because these are implements of war--Because the Vin plates are all reproductions and these were never titled anywhere you could get jammed up if customs in any country looks at the shipment-----The original asking price was 9k each--then 5k each--even at 15k for all you may never get them out of Ecuador after you pay for them. I do not think any of us missed out on anything in this deal--

Maybe a dumb question but could they have been disassembled, shipped to the US as parts, and then reassembled? Title issue would still be an issue but parts would be worth the 15k

That would have been my solution. Strip them down into components and ship them back as 'vehicle components'. Bodies crated in one container, chassis in another, engines in another. Just like the people purchasing Japanese vehicles in Japan, cutting them in half and shipping the front half here to get the higher horse engines here.

Reassemble when you get back here and get 'homebuilt vehicle' titles for them. Show the purchase documents for the components from the seller and you're good.

Yup that is just how they were dealt with..... taken apart and put into containers... Just not exactly sure where they were being shipped, but China was the best guess...
