HMMWV just delivered. Do I try and start after fresh fuel, oil and filters?

2003 AM General M1123 with 71 miles on it. Still has chalk marks on frame and it is spotless. It was marked on windshield NR-injection pump. On the injection pump this hose was disconnected. Is this the fuel line from the fuel pump? Also when I turn on ignition, it makes a buzzing sound. Will I hurt anything if the injection pump is bad, like clogging injectors?

The line from the fuel pump is in the middle of the pump head (where all the injector lines are attached), that is a return line and looks like it has been off a while, probably not going to hurt to try it as there is a valve in that fitting that may have kept out all the nasties, you are a LONG way off from turning on the run switch.
You have to figure out why that hose was off and of course replace it and all the fluids and filters and also check a bazillion other things before you are ready to try and start it..

If I try and turn it over with that hose removed I should have fuel come out if the injection pump is getting fuel? I've seen before where people think its the injection pump but turns out it a check valve after the gas tank. Thought I'd try before I tear this apart to remove injection pump.

If it's getting fuel and you have done all you should do to make sure you do no damage anything it will run, you have not gotten past the inspection and repair part of bringing it back to life.
The fluids/filters can be many years old, mileage not withstanding

But to answer your question the pump might not bypass fuel on the diaphragm or lift pump and starter speed alone.
And you should also have known good matching batteries, if you halfass this it could cost you dearly with a fried EESS

Other than draining the diesel and changing all filters and oils, what else can be damaged from trying to start?

What would be the buzzing sound when I turn it to run? It doesn't have a electronic fuel pump? Its mechanical, right?

Why would my oil have a green color to it? Like florescent green. It still is oily. Could coolant get in engine from just sitting for 18 years? In gas motors coolant in engine is from blown head gasket.20220206_210104.jpeg

Mine had 132 miles on it and when I changed the oil it was greenish and clean and I figured it was some sort of break-in oil. I never seen clean diesel oil. Nothing I changed fluid or filter wise needed to be changed because it all looked clean and fresh but it was 20 years old. Check the fuel filter and water separator add some clean fuel and diesel Kleen and use it in the maximum amount recommended. Good batteries and send it. I love that that kleen additive. Mine ran perfect after I got it and then it started to stumble after giving it any pedal while it was warming up and it would die and after running that stuff thru it cleared right up and has been perfect for 500 miles. It has stuff to lubricate everything that has been sitting forever.

First thing was brand new batteries. O'Riley's had them in stock. 204 a piece. Dioes yours buzz when you turn it to run? With the engine cover off I hear something buzzing. 20220206_190958.jpeg

NR IP... Non Runner, Injection Pump.

Not a betting kind of guy here.

I' am going to stand by and watch... while you pull the handle.

Winner winner, maybe chicken dinner, CAMO
I'm going to pull out first. Rather not take the chance. STANADYNE dealer in town will rebuild for 600. I waited 4 months, 2 days will be nothing.

I would run it if it was mine. You can always rebuild it. It has been sitting forever and getting it running might just fix it. Mine runs perfect since I have been driving it. I add that kleen every time I get fuel and I just finished the bottle. I thought I had a real issue but just driving it was the best thing for it. I just bought a m1165 non runner and it has the return line removed like yours and the last thing I will do is remove the ip. Everyone has a different take on what needs to be done. I’m sure the TM will walk you thru the proper way to diagnose your issue and that will be my starting point for my non runner.

I'm waiting on my cdr replacement parts and selector switch before I try and start. It's crazy how they cut all the water fording parts off. And to top it off when they removed battery's they cut the tie down j bolts instead of unscrewing.

You don’t need any of that to run it. Mine had the hose stuck in the hose and I ran it a week while waiting for the parts. I don’t think I could stand the wait. I would fire anyone that took a cutting wheel or a hammer to any part of the de Militarization process
I will say that I know very little about Hmmwv and how they work and I’m only speaking about my experience with mine. People here are so smart when it comes to everything Humvee and I would take their advice over mine any day

My two cents, (Don't take this to serious)

Your're the one... Boots on the ground, eye on the prize. Slow your "roll" ... research the TM's. Ask more questions here and add some nice pictures.

Lots of good ideas on the forum to wake up this sleeping giant. Hoses and buzzing, notes on the windshield... it's trying to tell you something.

If it bites back...could be a big chunk out of the wallet 👾👻💩 💰

There a real good chance (not betting) that after one goes over it real good, testing, checking the best you can, clearing issues... it just might wake right up.

Like a Christmas morning. Kids ripping and tossing wrapping paper... only to have lost the instructions. Hint to TM's.

Who eat all the cookies, CAMO

I read that another SS with slime in the engine. Non runners... It's hit or miss. Guess they all are LOL.
