I am soon putting together several HMMWV's, H1's and CUCV's for a specialized USAR team and other missions.

Any HMMWV or H1 members in SF or Reno area. I would love to start networking for HMMWV, H1 and CUCV's.

I will also be posting in classifieds soon for HMMWV's and parts for sale so keep an eye out.

The pictures in this post are my 2002 H1 Command Unit

Thanks.

I used to drive an armored truck, this is like open road, but I agree there are a few blind spots........ Thanks Dave. You are very smart with the CUCV's I wish you were closer. I hear GL will be releasing much more CUCV soon, interested in restoring one for us? Can't pay much but I would try to pay out of pocket......We can talk later in email.....

You couldn't pay me to ride in that, less drive it, all that stuff rigged together looks god awful not to mention being unsafe. This looks like something that you see rigged together in the parking lot of a ham radio show, not something that is anywhere near official use. Part of my job includes unfitting radios, computers, and other such equipment to police vehicles as well as other vehicles I would never let such abomination out of my shop less on to a public road.

Get in an accident in that thing, even a minor accident, and you'll be pulling high-tech outta your chest, skull, and asscrack in the hospital for a week. No thanks, your USAR crew is leaving too much to technology and not enough to fighting skills. I don't see so much as a single rifle rack in there. It's a useless piece of gear begging for an enemy to put an RPG into it.

I'm not trying to bust on anyone but clean installs really matter look and operate a lot better.
I counted at least 3 gps displays, a scanner, 2 cigarette lighter splitters, a laptop, an ancient HT, 4 LCD displays, 2 comm speakers, and a huge rats nest of wires. First off do you really need to monitor all those frequencies, less have the ability to transmit on them? I would install one transceiver that has guard frequency capability and a multiband one if you really need to to transmit on multiple frequencies and a modern transmitter at that, not a motorola brick from the early nineties. I would install this in a radio console in the middle. I would install a ram mount for the laptop, keep the indash unit with navigation, and if a gps with way point dropping for off road is necessary I would install a usb or serial gps for the laptop, which eliminates clutter and looks cleaner. If neccessary to listen on other frequencies I would install a scanner in the center console as well. I would take that light bar off and throw it in the trash you don't need it, if you park on the side of active roads I would install flashers in the rear tail lights and front turn signals, but only if you really need it and the non-whackers you work for allow it. In the sad sorry state that vehicle currently is in, it is a danger to your self and the traveling public when it is on the road.

After suffering head trama and some brain damage from an unsecured laptop I would not ride in that thing. This is a pic of mine after the crash and yes my laptop was in about the same spot as his. I now pay a lot more attention to making sure every thing is secured in the cab. It can happen to you.

nk, maybe that is why you have OUT OF NO DECENT REASON decided to be rude to people. Man if you have nothing nice to say, you should not talk! In every area you have been rude to me, not cool man, not cool. I need answers and need fast answers to questions to put together 4-6 rigs fast for a USAR team. Unless you offer to be a personal consultant and be there for questions,,,,,by the way you mention time is crucial, so is spending an hour trying to find and answer when you can get it in a few minutes or even seconds,,,,eat your own words! Nothing personal, although you have made it. No hard feelings, some people get off trying to insult others....have a great day, thanks for all your insight,,,,,I will say if I cannot find an answer I will post, like everyone else.

Huh? I have a urgent need now, do you not follow the news? hmmm.......Maybe because I am trying to put together a team in case this happens in the Bay Area or West Coast since that is the only part not hit by an earthquake when 3 of 4 earthquake faults in the same quadrant has been hit very recently. I have been in emergency services since 1987 if you really want a date and plan on it for a long time. If you want to help great, how about providing positive comments not negatives, you will live longer ;)

peace

rideni, the radio on dash is state of the art DUEL band high channel capacity Kenwood $2,000 radio, what motorola are you talking about??
Wasn't referring to you specifically, just referring in general to people who make rigs similar to yours who put ancient motorola bricks in the trunk.
What model Kenwood.
I'm not trying to be negative just realistic. You don't want a dangerous vehicle, you don't want something that people laugh at when they see you coming. A clean and neat install provides a safe vehicle, a useful resource, and show that your organization isn't a bunch of whackers. See Hamsexy.com.
