Hmmwv Seat high back mod, springer base

Search has failed me but I thought someone had all ready done this. I have noticed that a lot of the high back HMMWV drivers seats are out and look like they would bolt right in. Before I try to reinvent the wheel has anybody done this?

I ordered this set... they are great! I'm planning on installing them next week... I'll let you know how it goes...

I believe they are LMTV seats, though, and not HMMWV seats. I had a buddy of mine make an adapter.

Thanks Castle Bravo, at first I was thinking of doing the same, modifying my springer seat base. My springer seat cushion front edge is 14" above the floor, the Hmmwv drivers seat cushion is 14" to 18" off the deck, so I think I will just mount the drivers pedestal as is.
For the passengers side I am going to add a piece of angle iron, side to side to the existing seat frame and bolt the other one to it. Or at least that is my plan for now.
Pablo66 I got my seats but duce is at a buddies house and hopefully I will be able I will be able to get over there in the next couple of days to see if it is doable.

Now that I started to mastermind this I realized the drivers seat is fully adjustable up & down, back and forth. DO NOT CUT THE ZIP TIES PICTURED until you have the seat in your cab ready to bolt in!!

The drivers seat is fully adjustable up & down by about 4", the zip ties are a lock to keep seat adjustment compressed until it is installed.

Ok, I could not wait, so since I have a M109 in the drive... decided to try it out. It fits and seems to work rather well or at least for my big rear end.
I was hoping to try and use the holes already there, but only the the left front hole lines-up with any on the seat. Since this was more like a test when this is installed in my 35A2 all 4 new holes will be drilled. It appears the factory front mounting holes in the duce are on the correct plane but the seat as a whole needs to be shifted an inch or 2 to the passengers side. There is plenty of room to do it.

I went ahead and used the LF hole to hold it in place for the test and I only drove it this way for a mile. Parking brake is right up against it. Sorry for the poor pic's but it was parked in a tunnel of trees and I was losing light.

I lucked out and when the springer seat was installed they left the old bracket for the left side of the seat belt bolted to the rear of the cab, so no fab needed on that.

I put humvee seats in both the deuce and five ton welded angle iron on the springer bases to bolt them to got these a year or so ago when they sold lots of eight in alabama.

It may fit but you will have to move the drivers seat toward the door a bit.

We just picked up two more HMMWVs through LESO and they have the new high-back chairs...man they are nice! Let me know if you need more pictures or anything

I picked up a couple of these seats for my Deuce but haven't unpacked them yet. I definitely appreciate the pictures of the new seats with the extended base set up in your truck.

What do the new seat and base feel like compared to the old springer base?

My 2 seat kits did not, but I believe if you look up HMMWV in the parts section of the classified there are several sets offered. I got my set elsewhere .


Mike929 Really didn't weight it but think the new one is a little lighter, feels better and adjusts a whole lot better. I really won't know if it is a better deal till I spend an hour or 2 behind the wheel.
I have no problem with the stock box or springer seat for the first 45 mins but more than a hour and I get pretty stiff. The joys of being an old fat guy!

I hope more of these kits come out. I have one in my M35A2C and my install was beyond simplistic. I need to take some pics but the seat works great, need one more for the M108.

MW, where did you pick up seats? Ive been looking for a second seat to put in the 818.
Just the seat, I dont need the hmmwv springer base.

I took a regular spring seat base and removed the seat part and just used some flat stock to relocate the seat mounts.

Jeff I may do the springer seat mod like you and Castle Bravo did on the passengers side if dual seat plan doesn't work out.
I found 2 seat set online.

I believe my seats are LMTV seats, which are similar, but not the same as the HMMWV seats. The LMTV seats required a more complex adapter than the HMMWV seat would, the bolt holes are horizontal on the LMTV seat, whereas they are vertical on the HMMWV seat.

Well, I started, and I had a somewhat complicated setup of brackets and a piece of rubber between the bracket and the lid... In the back of my mind I was thinking... "double check that the bolts are the same on all of the seats..." I measured and fabbed the brackets using the front passenger seat... guess what? assuming that all the seats had the same bolts was a big mistake... Yea I know what assuming makes me... LOL!
the bolts for the rear seats are much shorter than the bolts for the front passenger seat...

so I had to scrap my elaborate plans and just use large washers....
still fiddling with the rear seats, I need to clearance the front lip on the storage compartment, and they will fit. Its taking me longer than expected because some friends of mine are getting married in our back yard friday morning, and I've been doing a ton of yard work to get the place ready for it. (a word of explaination... we live on 14 acres, so the "back yard" is more like a city park... LOTS of WORK!!)

Where could I find detailed instructions for installing the front seats and the 3 pt seatbelts?? I'm usually wrong when I just guess on stuff like that...

Paul I just have the front seat set kit so didn't even think of that. At the present I am just using the lap belt that comes with the duce, as this was just this was just a temp fit test. I got the set to put into a M275 that is going to need a complete rebuild and that is a long way off as I have just started to get it striped down for blasting an a engine transplant as the motor is locked up.
