Anyone have thoughts on what the hood number may have been on a GPW made 4/21/1942 ? Serial number GPW17298

Yeah what you have to do is search that database for entries that list the correct registration (hood) number and then interpolate to estimate yours. Unfortunately the database can’t be queried for registration numbers, says they are working on that.

Was just researching same this week for a GPW. Likely it’s between registration # 20161540 (sn 16452) and 20189438 (sn 18267) using the “1946 govt sales list” with sn and registration numbers listed for each jeep as a reference (saw this in G503.com),

A good chance your registration number was something above 20162386 (adding difference between your SN and sn 16452 to 16452’s registration number).

It appears they often assigned a few registration numbers out of sn sequence - so most likely it’s a bit higher then number mentioned above.
If you were able to contact Tom Wolboldt I imagine he can give you a more precise number.

Those numbers will get you in the ballpark. As I continue researching for mine if I find anything more definitive will post it.
