How do I test my batteries?

It seems like the specific gravity test is left out more often than not, the only good method to check the state of charge.
Check the battery articles in the PS magazine section, lots of good info.
From what I have read, a sulfated battery can be restored to about 80% of capacity after electronic pulse treatment (solargizer style), but it may take several weeks of continuous use and a good electronic (120 VAC powered) desulfator may cost as much as a set of new batteries.
For a long battery life, keep it fully charged at all times.

Take two wires and run them in a series attaching them to the batteries, then after wetting them touch one to your tongue and the other to your big toe. If you die a horrific and painful death they are good for something, if not buy new ones and use those for trolling motors:-D
