M1008, 285/75/16 tires. Usually 55 but I have a
short stretch of 4 lane highway I go 65, maybe a mile.
It seems to run right along nicely. If I have a load
or pulling the trailer (M101A3) it's just 55. Heavy loads
are 45 max, I only have to make it there. Doesn't
matter when.

While moving across the country at the beginning of the year, I ran the M1009 with 33's around 65.

I did push it to 75 a few times, on flat ground, but I was towing a 2600 pound car, and 1200 pounds in the back. She did great. Interesting, I got 18 MPG the one day I had the self control to stay at 55...

Stopping power is more of a concern than how fast it will go, IMHO. Especially when towing and/or heavily loaded.

I decoded the VIN on my M1010, and the brakes are designed to stop 10,000 lbs. If your Gross Combined Vehicle Weight (GCVW, loaded weight of truck and trailer) exceeds the design limit of your brakes, you'll likely be held liable if anything goes wrong. My trailer has its own brakes, designed to handle a 4,200 loaded trailer weight, so the truck brakes only need to stop the weight of the truck. So I have brakes designed to stop a total of 14,200 lbs. With a load like that, the 6.2 does 0-60 by Tuesday, but it will steadily accelerate on level ground.

I know the brakes are the issue. I was within the max load for the truck by about 100 pounds, and only took it above 65 on those long flat straight desert highways in AZ, NM, and TX.

Thankyou CUCVLOVER for this topic.It got me thinking about gears and OD.A vehicle with 4.10 gears and a .75 OD would be right around 3.08 gears in OD.With 33s.With 3.73s it would be like 2.79 final ratio.I wonder what the optimum rpm range is for mpg?

I've found WIND, to be a big factor in the fuel mileage with my M1028. These trucks aren't exactly shaped like and arrow yah know:shock:.

I did flat tow a M1008 behind it for 120 miles at 55 mph and got 14 mpg. As I look at it I weigh as much as a deuce and got better mileage with an optional better top speed.

I did flat tow a M1008 behind it for 120 miles at 55 mph and got 14 mpg. As I look at it I weigh as much as a deuce and got better mileage with an optional better top speed.
1: why are you called fuzzy toaster?
2: a duece only weighs 7400ish?
3: for just a bit of humor. Why are you still up?

1. Because you've never cleaned your toaster before, lol.
2. 7400 lbs + 5900 lbs = 13300 total lbs so close to a deuce
3. Doing final checks before painting my m1008 tomorrow if murphy stays away.

My M1009 runs pretty loud up to 55 mph. Somewhere between 55 & 60 she smooth's out and hums real nice. That's the sweet spot. Between 60 & 75 it's still a pretty nice ride. I'm only getting 16 mpg city and 18 hwy on stock tires.

I run 31" stock tires on my M1009. I run the truck between 65 and 75 MPH on the interstates. It gets much better MPG at 70 than at 75.

Due to air conditioning, I have to keep it under 70 indicated when OAT is over 80F, otherwise it overheats slightly. Higher engine speed makes for more waste heat in IDI engines. Stock M1031 SECM with home made 24 volt AC compressor and front mounted condenser which probably chokes air flow through the radiator. But I ride in comfort.

When I get the 4L80E conversion, it will not be an issue. Pulling a 7000 pound trailer at 45 MPH with throttle buried did not have any issue.
