How Perkins 3 Banger Fuel Solenoid Works?

Guys my Schutt trailer has a 3banger Perkins GH-403D-07
engine that runs a hydraulic pump. It is like new but it has sat
for maybe 4-5 years. One issue is the Fuel Solenoid seems
to be bad. I pulled the solenoid and hit it w/ 12V and it does nothing.

1- Am I correct that the Solenoid rod should RETRACT when energized?

2- If it retracts does the rod simply slide in and out of something
inside the pump or does the rod push something "in" when you
kill the motor and allow something to slide "out" when you
turn it on? I am trying to determine if something is stuck or
slightly corroded inside this pump.

Here is a pic of the Solenoid and
the best pic I can get of inside the solenoid hole.

Should things slide back and forth in there moved by the Solenoid rod?

Should I WD40 inside this hole or
Does this get engine oil flooding inside there when the engine runs?

If I pull the injectors 3 tube and unscrew the main pump
bolts will a million parts fall out or is it ok to pull this
housing and look inside for issues?

I do have fuel all the way up to the pump, after that no fuel,
that is why I looked at and ordered a new Solenoid.

The engine has not fired yet except w/ a quick squirt of ether.

Batteries are replaced and new.

Starter is completely rebuilt and as-new.

I have fuel to the Element filter and I used it's purge bolt too.

I have fuel after the filter to the return line.***

I have fuel to the pump inlet. ***

***I actually pumped fuel into a glass jar from both lines A-OK

There are no TM's in existence anywhere, confirmed less a $75.00 book
from perkins, sigh...

You stated that the "batteries" have been replaced. From that statement I assume there are two batteries. You also said that you put 12V directly to the solenoid but nothing happened. Since the rig apparently uses two batteries, is it a 24V solenoid?

With the solenoid removed it should start but will blow oil all over. $75 isn't a bad price for the book it beats guessing.

Except all these 75 dollar bills are really adding up
and they will torture me shipping it for England.
Plus I just bought the trailer and an M916.
I need a break for a while from hemorrhaging money.

If I drag this to perkins I will get slammed.

It is something silly, I need to find silly.

Porkys did you deduce this should run w/o a solenoid after reading the wiring schematic?

It is a two wire solenoid, there is a low oil and high water temp interrupt
that shuts this down via the solenoid I see, I do not know how that
relay fits into the scheme.

Nope , when the mini-excavator I rented died with the boom in the hole because of a bad solenoid . They couldn't send their mechanic for 8 hours and we had to keep working . Go to your local JCB dealer they got perkins in them. Just the parts book for my Case 580 SuperK was $225 . They copyright thier manuals so they can't get passed out for free on the internet . I'm there is a forum dedicated to perkins motors if you search. Just about every kind of construction equipment uses them.

In run mode the solenoid 'rod' is 'retracted' into the body of the solenoid (Solenoids work this way the core is sucked into the coil's magnetic field when activated) according to the diagram.

Additionally: if you can't move that output pin of the solenoid manually in/out it is likely stuck.

Thank u Peter. Yep, that seems to be the case. Going into
these repairs cold and w/o any training is a daunting task
but I wiggled my way through it. Now I know.
