How tight on rear spindle nut?

I just put on new seals from devilman today. How much should I tighten the inner spindle nut? How much free turn should the hub have. Thanks.

By the way this is on the rear axle.

Rule of thumb. Tighten down snug not tight and not loose back off 1/8 of a turn.

Don't believe there is a torque on the inner nut. The outer gets torqued. The TMs are in the Tech Manual section. You might want to think about downloading them, they are full of very useful info. Best part is they are free! If you do the bearings wrong, you'll end up buying new bearings,and or hubs and there is a posibility of ruining the spindle. Better safe than sorry.

Speaking of rear seals, I have two sets for rear wheels dated from 1996-2000. Do you consider these too "old" to use. Still in original packaging and seem quite pliable. Any thoughts?

I'd say they were OK, what we're talking about is NOS stuff thats OLD... Like the "packed in 1953" seal I got from Memphis awhile back...

Here is what tech told me at arvin meritor/rockwell. tighten inner nut to 100ft lbs while turning back off one turn and retighten to 50ft lbs back off up to a 1/3 turn with no more than .005 endplay.outer nut gets torque to 100ft lbs min. to 200ft lbs max. this will allow for locking tab alignment.
