How to fireproof magnesium parts?

For those of you who know and love the M274s, all models execpt the A5 had magnesium beds and wheels. Is there any kind of fire retardant paint, or any other treatment, that can make magnesium less likely to catch fire? Anyone that has seen magnesium burn knows there's no putting it out. Just something I've wondered about.

It takes a very involved fire to get magnesium going. The vehicle would already be a total loss by the time the magnesium starts burning.

Bury them in sand or powdered graphite.

You asked :)

Here in AZ. were experiencing frequent EV Battery fires, (the EV Makers ignored the fact that Lithium Batteries generate high heat and operating them in a high heat Desert will cause a Lithium Fire).

he FD has resulted to responding to an EV Fire with a Roll-Off Dumpster, loading the EV in it then covering with sand or water and waiting until the fire burns itself out. An EV Fire solves all the Environmentalists goals, (insert sarcasm).

Here's a recent video about PhxFD/EV Fires
