How to hand crank over a 250H Cummins?

Starter was fried on my M923. New starter arrives tomorrow and I want to be sure the motor turns over freely before trying the new starter. Any precautions or tips for cranking it over?

Thanks
Brad

You can turn it over using a breaker bar and socket on the pulley right below the power steering pump. I don't remember what size socket. You don't need to pull the injectors.

That's true as well. But due to the compression, you could possibly damage something if you hit rust (rings) before knowing it if you're on a compression stroke.

I doubt it, the compression goes past the rings easily at breaker bar cranking speed. You can only move the bar a small amount each time; if you come to a hard stop, you'll know it.
