I had another thread started on bypassingthe heater core due to a leaking one. I had to change direction on that and now have a week or so to do it a little more correct. I have a parts M998 that I hope the heater core is solid and want to just swap out the two heater cores. I have found all kinds of directions on removing the entire unit, but my unit is working fine and has all the correct hoses and connections and don't want to fix what ain't broke. Any direction or tips on removing the air box and accessing and replacing just the heater core? I'll hang up and listen.

Unfortunately you cannot replace just the heater core without removing the housing, in fact in service there is only a complete housing with core, the core itself is not replaced on its own.
The bad part is you will likely tear some of the old heater vent hoses in the process as they are probably pretty frail.

Sometimes you need to buy a heater core meant for something else and then cut off the intakes and either make or TIG weld or connect with rubber hose to make it fit your function.
