How to respond to unsupportive comments?

then just walk away chuckling. Keep them guessing.

Due to my poor choices in vehicles (others opinions), I've dealt with comments like these since I was 15 and bought my 1st MGB-GT.... I've had one to multiple MG's, Land Rovers, and Saabs in my drive since I was in my 20's. Honestly with proper PM they have been more reliable then many brand new cars that have shared the driveway or garage with them...

Ignore them or come up with a quip to shut them up.

For my M35a2 it is as one already suggested. I'm honored to have the opportunity to provide and care for this old steel soldier. It served our boys, girls, men, women and our country during its service and I felt I had a duty/responsibility to preserve it for future generations. It has plenty of life left in it and I couldn't bare to see it cut up or crushed. What exactly is "your" opinion on supporting our veterans

For my MG's or Rovers it is... The oil trails are by design, it is so they can find their own way home or the oil leaks were designed in as a maintenance indicator. If it isn't leaking, it is empty...

Everybody seems to have anecdotes they believe constitute evidence about every piece of military hardware ever made and how great or terrible it is. I'll bet your opinionated acquaintance was a special forces seal when he served in the merchant marine. Of course his delta force black ops service record is probably so secret he couldn’t tell you about it.

That was a good guess, he had a patch said Special Forces.

Mine leaves tire marks everytime I turn a corner. I also got kicked out of "fresh paved" parking lots.

Heh, not surprising. I've probably met more "former special forces/delta/black ops/seal/ranger" veterans than any other military occupational specialty. Apparently our military had FAR more SOCOM types serving in the past. Also funny how they can never tell you specifics about their service because it's so ultra double top secret classified, yet they ALWAYS have something to say.

I believe both the current and past member of Discovery's "Dual Survival" were accused of that very falsification. David Canterbury admitted to it, Joe Teti was standing his ground not sure the outcome.

Personally I've told civilians I'm a Cruise Missile Pilot and an Oxidization Control Engineer...

This falls under the same category as "There are no stupid questions but there sure are a lot if inquisitive idiots in the world".

One of my favorite responses to snide remarks or dumb questions is "it's less expensive that booze and hookers and the Boss Lady can live with it."

Besides...the Boss Lady has horses and if you think green iron is an expensive habit try owning several equine money pits.

At least I can ride in my truck and don't have to shovel the exhaust out of the barn.

Many years ago co-worker was telling us a story at lunch time about a woman he was going out with. Evidently, she made the following comment, "who are you going to satisfy with that?" his reply, "me".

I guess the same would apply to mv's, they only really have to make you happy!

I've never had anything but positive comments from strangers. A few of my buddies will rag me a little about why I have so much green iron but they don't mean anything hateful by it.

I just don't understand why people feel the need to make a negative comment instead of just keeping their mouth shut and moving on. Most of this world's problems could be solved if people would just worry about themselves instead of worrying about what somebody else is or isn't doing.
