well as seen in my photo gallery Pre Prime engine oil to filter mod.. here a cheaper and certainly EASY way to stop that "scary" no oil pressure for heart stopping ages on multi 465 engines. I will post as WE go. Time spent up to now? 4 hours! including going to the supply store for the bits.

Sounds interesting. If nothing else, I'm glad someone's shop is as messy as mine. Well, almost as messy as mine.

Or you could put spin-on oil filter adaptors on, use anti drain back filters and get oil pressure in 2 seconds, missing out on dropping the oil pan, finding the parts locally and cheap enough to make you think you got a great deal, put it together and find out something leaks, or worse, just doesn't work the way you expected it would, but , that wouldn't be as much fun........................?

I have read all of the posts that I can find on this site about the oil drain back problem in deuces, and how the filters only contribute about 1 gallon to the 2 plus gallons that are getting pumped during the 15+ seconds the deuce is without oil. The opinions seem to be that the rest of the oil is coming from the oil passageways and journals that are above the filters, and that the only way to solve the problem is with a pre-oiler system... Perhaps.

The one thing I haven't seen mentioned is most of the oil that leaves the oil passageways and journals leaves by going backwards through the filter, and backwards through the oil pump. The anti back flow valves in the Jatonka adapter's spin on filters are stopping that path too! (And yes, it is normal for a positive displacement gear pump, like the oil pump, to leak oil like that. It pumps fast enough to easily overcome any of its own internal leaks.)

The only thing stopping me from buying your product is I am a cheap SOB that has a full machine shop, and keeps thinking that I should take the time to make my own... In the meantime, I hate myself every time I start my deuce and listen to the turbo charger complain while I wait 15 seconds for the oil pump to get done blowing all of that good clean oil out of the bearings and oil galleries and start pumping fresh oil back in.

Sigh!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery...LOL:-D

The Modification finished

HERE WE ARE! folks finished..and works well..in fact better than the one on my M62 Wrecker.(faster prime up! :Note: I have used smaller Dia pipes and re-located the draw off to the bottom of the sump. Kit Parts. 15. inch, 1/2 inch I.D, Hyd hose and fittings. ( the end at oil the filter manifold has 1/2 Non-Return valve. £16.:: 2ft. 6. inch. 3/4 I.D. Hydraulic hose and fittings: £32. 12/24 Volt Hydraulic pump (ex Fork lift Truck £25.) switch for pannel. (free! (I have loads ex rally stalls) Now Gents! TIME TAKEN. (lack of lateral thinking old age or just forward thinkink excluded!!) Jack Up front (well lift with fork truck in my case) (emplace SAFETY STAND) Remove sump. Trepan hole (yeah well HOLES! in my case..& re-fill 2! lol) Go get hoses (made up) & one way valve. Re-place sump. Fit hoses and pump with securing plate. (manufactured from the junk pile) (two nuts and bolts thro existing holes in chassis. Run Wiring (pence I have rolls of the stuff Ex-strip outs) from pump to switch on dash. TRY IT OUT. great IT WORKS!. Ever SO pleased.. The "anxiouse" phase of starting ELIMINATED!.

O you poor man..... M35a2 do a search on it.. you will find out why. It was designed to be used in -60* weather. so the oil would sit in the pan and be heated with a arctic heating kit. if you are not using it in -60* why not make it better and less ware on the engine? Please search.

You Limeys just love the mud, must be all that soccer. Seeing open lubrication lines on the muddy ground makes me cringe.

BTW, I married a Brit.

The engine was designed to have no oil pressure on start up, Why must people fix that what is not broken?

- Sigh -
Two reasons: First, because bad designs happen all the time. And second, because the military's engine swap out schedule doesn't fit most of our needs and desires..

The first 15 seconds of operation has the oil pump forcing air through all of the oil galleries and bearings. That 15 seconds causes more wear to the engine than 100 hours of operation. More than 200 revolutions of the crankshaft, with no oil! More than 200 strokes of each piston without oil. It just isn't a good idea.

A good nearly effortless solution is Jatonka's spin on oil filter adapters.

Pressure on fire up

Primer Pump gives Pressure on fire up 15lbs psi..really good..I am well pleased! climbs up to 60lbs psi (cold) within 5/6 seconds. Also I shall re-fit the cover at chassis side (for the orriginal protection) and with hinge ability to facilitate access to the primer pump. etc.
