Pretty straight forward. One end fits in the bracket on the pads. The other end fits in brackets on the truck. The knob is more or less like a ratchet. Turn it one way, the jack goes up. Reverse the knob, it goes down. I seem to remember that the instructions are in the TM.

thanks, i figured the sleeve must be for direction but it must be a bit stuck or need more tension first. TM just says "operate the jack up" or "operate the jack down"...

Actually, they work well, and are easy to use. I had a Exspando van for my Shop Office in a Maintenance Company. It was also the alternate C.P. So it was stuffed full of all kinds of things concerning the DS repair operation, that was our sole job. Then the 5-6 radios and C.P. operations for the Company. I allotted one guy, my NCOIC to help me in the job of setting the whole thing up. He drove, I rode shotgun. He stopped long enough to let me disconnect the trailer mounted 15 KW gen set, then I grabbed the power cable that is located on the rear right side of the truck and he drove until the cable dropped off the reel. Then he backed up 6-7 feet and parked. I drove the ground rod, started the gen set and hooked up the cable. My NCOIC and I had the van grounded, leveled, sides cranked out and the floor and roof panels opened and sides cranked out. Then I hooked up the cable to the van. We were operational. Could not have taken more than 15-20 min at max. Oh, then the first thing my NCOIC did was plug in the coffee pot! Got to have your priorities.

here is what it would look like naked, with only the structure and no skin panels:

having reverse engineered the entire Expansible Van Body, I wish i could go back in time and tell them how to improve it.... several poor design decisions...
