Hope the transfer case isn’t damaged…
Yeah hopefully the damage was from a forklift not an actual impact. That's a LOT of force required to move the axle like that relative to the springs / frame.

I can't even envision, mechanically, how that shock came to look like it does.

I’ve been remaining quiet because I have not yet received the vehicle. I’m unable to comment on any of this damage, and it would be unfair for me to make statements in ignorance. You may absolutely be correct or not.

I will let you guys know when I am able.

My vehicle transporter (Daniel who does awesome work in California) told me that the bent shock seems to be forklift damage. Same with the bent driveshaft.

i’m told that the axle alignment looks appropriate and the axle does not appear damaged

I’m told the rig looks relatively new and unused.

I’m told tires hold air AND brakes were able to be disengaged with air pressure and did not need to be “caged”.

I’m told the rig pulled straight when loaded onto the trailer.

More details to follow when I receive her and inspect her.

Good Deal! Now to find a reputable drive shaft repair shop...
Happy to hear that the air system seems to be intact.

I remember how I felt when I "accidently" won mine... Non runner and what not. I saw a turret cap sitting in a garbage pile at the local armory... I wanted to stop and ask someone if it was trash but never did.

I enjoy driving the LMTV better than the HMMWV... Also LMTV people are a little nicer than HMMWV people.

Oh hell, this is how it begins… All giddy optimism untill it arrives in your driveway then the reality of “OMG, What Have I Done” sets in…

You do have a therapist on retainer right?

Don’t turn to Alcohol, that path leads to the dark side…:)
Turn to Alcohol? Diesel engines run better on other stuff like Kerosene.

Drinking alcohol is much better and lightens things up. 😂

This will be a learning process. Swear jars will be filled to the brim.

No expectations, just gonna start work.

So… ideas on where to start?

I’m thinking getting the rig to turn over.

What do I need to worry about with the IP?

Common no-start issues after J-6 fuel fudges everything up?

I’ll check the fluids first and then remove the rear driveshaft. I’m told the tires still hold air so I will blow off the CTIS and air pump rebuild for now. I have tools to cage the brakes and inspect and re-grease the air brakes. All this means Richard unless I can get the Diesel to turn over.

If I had to start over with mine from the beginning, with what I know now, I'd head dive into replacing every flexible line on spec (fuel, coolant, oil, trans), replace every ground connection, swap in a reman oil pump and bypass filter, immediately convert to 24v only alt & 2 batteries while tossing the lbcd and relay, and redo every axle hub seal/bearing service. That's before I started it. IMHO

1. hand over hand the wiring looking for damaged cable or disconnected connectors(in and under left and right dash, behind grill around engine and alongside both sides of the transmission.
2. Follow all the battery cables and positively identify the ground, 12v and 24v cables. Does this truck have a disconnect switch(box to rear of battery box)?
3. Charge and load test a pair of good batteries to wire in series to develop your 12 and 24v outputs.
4. With batteries connected, check for 12 and 24v at the 12 and 24v batt test bolts in the passenger dash power panel(4 bolt heads, two are 12 and 24v
battery in, the other two are 12 and 24v ign out).
5. if 1,2,3 and 4 are completed successfully, turn on the ign sw you should have dash idiot lights, and a trans controller display. the important dash idiot light to note is a check engine light from the engine ECU...

Check fluids and visual inspection to ensure nothing critical is missing.

Batteries, electrical connections, and getting it to crank. Fuel lines are probably rotted out and the most frequent issues with fueling is the supply lines sucking air and not lifting fuel to the engine, and the primer getting hung up internally on some bit of trash. Service both filters and get the primer working. Should pump up to a solid feel where you are pushing fuel back through the pressure regulator - feels like you are moving fuel not just an empty plunger.

Once it cranks and has a firm primer it shouldn't take much to get it running. Assuming the ECM is online they typically try to fire off pretty easily. Not like the HMMWV's with the 6.2 and mushroomed glow plugs.... Might as well come back next spring. 🙄. These really aren't like that and generally will kick over without fuss.

Great video for me (the current newbie) to learn from.

MANY THANKS!
my videos are for the 3116, but the primary fuel system between the 3 engines is basically the same. tank, primer/filter, lift pump, main fuel filter, head fuel gallery, pressure regulator and return to tank. Primary fuel pressure(measured between lift pump and main filter) is an often overlooked but pretty important part of the process on all these engines. I have a few other fuel system videos(among other truck vids) under that user name.

Truck axle place within 15 miles so gonna remove rear drive shaft and get her retubed and balanced.

Any idea what shocks can be substituted and swapped into these rigs that don’t break the bank?
