Well, I need a bigger vehicle for some work pulling larger trailers AND camping and probably doing some emergency type volunteer work.
Purchased a 13,000 mile Cali FMTV. Not running. Bent driveshaft.

Time to cry. Then read TM’s and post here.

I own several HMMWV and an H1. I guess I’m branching out.

It’s a disease.

what have I done! 😉

Yes Sir!

Gotta branch out...
The disease is pretty aggressive.
Next you will want a wrecker to haul your vehicles around.
Or maybe an armored vehicle.

Budget $10k and 80hrs of rehabilitation maintenance before starting it up. It'll be worth it.
Then I gotta start asking about those hub things (???) you all are using to increase top speed and comfort.

Will also fit a water tank and sprayer for those pesky Cali wildfires. Figure it should be able to hold a few hundred gallons of Adam’s Ale, for purposes of firefighting.

And thank you all for the warm welcome. Appreciated!

Click on the ECO-Hub link at the top of the page. That'll take you to Mike's site. Those are a requirement IMO. Takes 4-6 hours to do all 4 of them, plus the work will overlap when you redo the hub seals anyway. I was getting 5.5mpg, now 9.5mpg.

For me, the prime objective was halving the drivetrain speed. That part made it a no-brainer for me.

Do NOT rush when installing your eco hubs because you think "it's technically possible to do in 4 hours" that "you should be able to". The people who brag about how quickly they got it done are the one's who end up having to re-do every single hub and spend 3 times as much time because they didn't take the time to properly clean, polish, and clean again every surface before applying sealant and bolting them up. Another thing "rushers" do is disregard the maker (Mike)'s instructions to WAIT a FULL 24-hours minimum to fill the axels back up with gear oil after you've bolted them up.

And i do NOT recommend the so-called "extra gaskets". Mike will straight tell anyone who asks that you don't need them and he only added them as a thing you can buy because of the sheer amount of people asking for them who were willing to throw money at him. He doesn't put them on his own trucks. Go ahead and ask him if you don't believe me.

The silicone IS the gasket. People advocating adding an extra ring in there don't understand concepts like "adding an additional point of failure by turning two surfaces that must be sealed into four by adding another piece of material in between them.

I can’t seem to find the link to Mikes Eco Hubs. Search disallows three letter words.

Tires are crap, tie rod bent, brakes not caged (won't roll), rear sway bar bushings shot, otherwise looks great.
Tie rod or driveshaft bent?

Can’t argue with everything else.

I figure at least 6 months of tinkering to get her almost reasonable to drive.

I resent to implication bro. Took me 6 hours and I was going slow. I was giving a swag estimate. No one said "it's technically possible to do in 4 hours" except you. So Ease up with the attitude honey bunch.

You HAD a M66 ring mount, Uncle pulled it, the mount kit is still there, you will need another one to mount your ma deuce or you will need a roof plug. Check with Beltfed for either.
I can make the plug with 1/8 inch steel and my plasma cutter or maybe I should just go sloppy with a square 4’x4’ steel panel of cold roll, like I did on my M1165. I have square 1/8 Aluminum sheet for several of my flying nun roof M1151 slantbacks.

Or, beltfed will ship the factory part right to your site there in Cali for $299 for the plug and $175 shipping. He has 3 of them. Spend your valuable time out there with higher priorities would be my suggestion.

I saw that one. All I can think of these days is shipping costs..... Besides I already have a project 1998 M1078A0 that's taking too much of my time. DMV kicked me over to CHP my appointment is tomorrow wish me luck!

I'm going up to Doyle on Sunday night, actually I'll overnight in Reno, then get there first thing Monday and come back home. About 5 hours return trip. I have a 5kW MEP and a Gichner Mobilizer to tow home. Sierra pass weather is looking as good as it gets this time of year I'm going while it's good. Got stuck in a snowstorm last year retrieving an M1102 loaded with stuff. Chain monkeys made me turn around and buy chains for it. Not doing that again. Know anybody that needs a set of chains suitable for a HMMWV?

You want me to take more pics of stuff or do some recon then message me. I won't have a lot of time but I can make a little.

I appreciate the offer but you won’t have time. I’d love to air up that dead tire. I’d like to know if she holds air. It’s will make getting her onto and off of a large trailer a bit less complicated.

Not sure what I might want pictures of, too ignorant to ask at this point in time.
