Bring an air compressor (if you don't drive a truck with air). The guys are cranky about filling tires. Since I'm taking my regular pickup this time I'll be toting along a little Honda generator and a pancake compressor.....

Well, I need a bigger vehicle for some work pulling larger trailers AND camping and probably doing some emergency type volunteer work.
Purchased a 13,000 mile Cali FMTV. Not running. Bent driveshaft.

Time to cry. Then read TM’s and post here.

I own several HMMWV and an H1. I guess I’m branching out.

It’s a disease.

what have I done! 😉
Where are you getting this thing transported to? Few years ago it was six grand to move one 2200 miles.

Yeah and it only takes about 6 months to fill each tire!

Childs play. When driving my M936A2 home across country I found the CTIS issue when it flattened all 6 14r20 on the side of the road. Filling them all with the engine compressor took quite some time. Would have been even nicer if it hadn't have been the plains of Wyoming in late November. Unplugged the system and didn't touch it again until I got home and fixed it.

Lesson learned on the M1078. Drove it home from east Utah and left that sucker unplugged all the way. Plugged it in at home and got 4 flats!

I will ship her 500 miles to LittleRock CA.

There I will work with my partner in crime (and the original “jobless loser”), Eric HummerH1.

This unit is destined to be a camper, relief vehicle, and I will purchase a several hundred gallon water container and Honda water pump to turn it into a makeshift fire truck for emergencies.

Just read up on the EcoHubs. Website is solid BUT YT videos really make the units understandable. The hubs are elegant in their simplicity. Brilliant.

I like the idea of removing the parasitic outer spider gears in favor of direct drive. Seems more practical than 3.07 front and rear gears based on loss of parasitic drag.

I’m sold.

hopefully the bent stuff is from Idiots moving it with a Fork Lift. Which is actually a common issue.

that said look close at every inch of housing of transmission for cracks (in case issues there is why originally got taken out of service). Also check rear pumpkin... , Ujoint, pinion bearing..... issues there can cause the trans issue just mentioned.

Rig scheduled to be delivered next week.

Where to start? LOL

I guess best place is list of fluids that need changing and filters that need replacing prior to attempting to fire her up.

what is or are the best TM’s?

If this truck were mine, first thing would be to replace the turret hole cap so the rain will stop soaking the interior and instruments. Next I would focus on the driveshafts (read up on possibly needing a puller to get the ujoints apart). Next I would pull and straighten the tie rod. Next I would install batteries and go for a spin. Lubricants can wait (as long as they have not been drained).

Of course I agree. I might have to straighten that darned rear driveshaft first though. 😉

I can’t wait for delivery this week!

There's no straightening - that's almost certain to result in failure and possible damage.... a driveshaft failure on these trucks can result in damage to so many major components and collateral damage that the truck is not economically viable to repair.

You MUST have all new driveshafts manufactured with all new u-joints and you want to CAREFULLY inspect all the yokes for damage. If the new u-joints don't just drop right in I would be replacing yoke's since they could be damaged as well.

Yes this will cost several thousand $$, No there is no alternative. Even used driveshafts are too suspect to simply install. Many of these were poorly balanced or the balance was lost due to improper clocking at the splined slip-yokes, etc. There is basically zero alternatives here - you get new one's made or you roll the dice and probably lose $10,000 to $25,000 if you lose that bet. We have seen driveshaft failures PERMANENTLY destroy transmissions and even break the engine bell-housing. The forces involved are insane.

Also - looking closer at ALL the pictures - that whole rear axle is completely fornicated from that driveshaft being bent - the whole thing is pulled forward on the drivers side and the sway bar bracket is bent, and the drivers side shock looks like a banana.

That truck is going nowhere for a while. Needs tires immediately, rear axle isn't straight to the frame, and the drag link is bent up front so the alignment will be off.....

Needs tires, driveshafts, alignment, and a bunch of help from qualified technicians. I doubt that truck drives for at least a month. Who knows what else is lurking with the turret cover missing and the PDP just open to the elements.

You got guts I'll give ya that. Given the price and the EUC and all the rest I would say it probably won't end up being that great of a deal. Needs at least $5-10k worth of parts most likely just to put it on the road.

13k miles..... that's either ready for a HEUI pump or it's already been replaced. Cross your fingers.

Almost certainly need a main engine oil pump if the engine is original.
