This is a topic that has several answers because the WAIT light behaves differently depending on which Protective Control Box is installed in your truck. The original Prestolite boxes turned the glow plugs on for about 11 seconds and would cycle them until the engine started. You could observe the voltmeter cycling when they were on and this would continue for about 30 seconds after start. This was called "afterglow" and was completely normal. As the PCBs changed through Nartron, KDS, SSI, and up to the latest S3 boxes the light behaved differently. You will also not hear the glow plug contactor cycling (big clunk under the dash) or see the voltmeter fluctuate. There are some very good write ups on starting issues here and on the G503 HMMWV forums.
