Actually the Volkswagen Type 181 was used by the German Military until the 80's. Mine is a civilian version and currently laid out as an Urban Assualt Vehicle (UAV - SUV) to infiltrate the mall parking lots. It has an 1835cc engine with two two-barrel 40mm Weber Carbs. The tires are BFG Radial ATs.

My neighbour had one similar or the same as yours back in the late 70's, a fun vehicle.

Here is the military version in Danish service, and the German camo pattern (fleckenplan) if you decide on a repaint! (G=Green, S=Black, B=Brown)
