So iv got a 84 M1028 with a sad gen two. Trucks a champ but at idle the gen 2 light stays on. Iv gone through every wire and every diag i know. Iv had the gen rebuilt three times all ready (NOT knocking Browning's Alternator) I got about a week or so out of the first rebuild, then two days out of the second and finally three weeks the third time. At least now is only complains at low RPMs. But gen 2 is the original from what i can tell and its all ready so wore out i don't think another rebuild will help it much. BUT i found a thread months ago were a member said he found a none isolated replacement at Napa with a part number, so i book marked it. Then my CPU murdered my mother board so i lost it and i cant seem to find it. Any one know what im talking about.

Can't help with finding the thread, as there are many of them relating to alternators...

As for using a non-isolated ground alt, that can only go in the GEN1 position. So, if your GEN1 is good, and has the isolated ground, you can move it to the GEN2 spot, and then install an off-the-shelf "normal" alt in the GEN1 spot.

I seem to recall mention of a Caddy alt that is 100amp that has worked. The basic alt itself is fairly common, its the insulators and ground stud that throws parts guys for a loop.

At least one person here on SS took a "normal" alt, and drilled it for the isolated ground terminal, and installed all the insulators, and was good to go.

Good luck!

I believe if you check the CUCV wiki, you will find that part number. Also, it would be appreciated if you could put forth some effort on trying to capitalize and use punctuation. I've compared to iv and so forth. It's a site requirement and help folks to better understand you.

I have two of these on my M1028a1 from Napa, part number is .WIL 90014277. No offense but its really not that hard to find these part numbers.
