I really really hate (although I do for safety's sake) to check the brake fluid. I was wondering if I could disconnect the vent line to the master cylinder and run it to a vented remote transparent reservoir mounted in an easily accessible area. Can anyone see a problem with doing this?

I have a frend at the museum who did just that. He took a winshield washer bottle and mounted it to the back of the cab wall. And ran the hose down to the MC. He just looks at the bottle and can easily see how much is there.

Yep, works great. That mod is also covered at Roscommon too. One I've been meaning to do for years but never do.

Checking the MC by the old fashioned way is quite easy, too... all you need is a 3/8-7/16 open end wrench for the vent line and a 3/4 inch open end wrench for the cap, a little neverseize for the threads, a screwdriver for the floor door and a funnel and a pint of Dot 5 which you keep in the area behind and to the left of the Driver's seat...with the flashlight...Still doing it the old fashioned way...standing on the ground.

I've been checking these the ol' fashioned way just like ACE.... But, I have three of those plastic remote reservoirs that are mentioned in the Roscommon PDF (exactly the same, although mine are Tilton, not Wildwood) that are left over from remote reservoir clutch master cylinder instalations in Cummins powered M37's. They always provide a pair of tanks with each kit...
I think I'll set one up in each of the dueces... Nice idea.

Thinking

Thinking for the individual---problmatic.....Thinking by the group problem solving. I can feel a NAPA (Milwood has yet to respond to my email) trip coming up. Thanks to everyone who just made routine maintenance a bit easier.[/quote]
