Identifing a split brake system truck

I have noticed in a few threads, people talking about if a truck has the split brake system or not. One method of saying that it doesn't, is if the gauge panel doesn't have the light in the center that says "Brake" then it doesn't have the split brakes.
A fairly safe assumption.

Now don't go thinking that " the dash panel has the brake light, it must have the split brake system"

My '69 M35A2 with the standard single reservoir master cylinder, has that gauge panel with the brake light, which is hooked to the switch on the parking brake lever, this is how it came from GL last year.

The parking brake warning dash light just went along with the upgrade made from 87 and later.also along with the upgrade was the split brake circuit.many times before people associate the dash light as an indicator to split brakes which is not so.the only sure way is by knowing the actual build date and looking for the second air pack

So it would be safe to say all split brake deuces have the parking brake warning light. However not all parking brake indicator equipped trucks have split brakes

I know of a guy that installs the brake light in his panels so he has less of a chance of driving off with the park brake on. Not me, but it does sound like a good idea. Glen

I've installed the additional light and have it wired with the low air buzzer(in a few trucks), as a second warning method(I wear good ear protection).

I like the parking brake switch, when used with the light also.(kinda pricey)

My deuce has a split brake system and no parking brake warning light on the dash.

The only sure way to know, is to look under the truck for the additional brake circuit parts.

Along the lines of this subject. I've had 2 trucks, one from Ft Stewart and one from Lavinia TN and both had an M151 switch as an improvised park brake switch and a red low air light on the left side of the dash left of the power switch. Pretty cooll.
