I'm confused on tire sizes.

I need several new tires for my 939A2 series, They are all 14Rx20. Can I use 395/85R 20? I don't understand what the numbers mean, I understand the 20inch being the rim diameter, but the difference between 14 and 395/85 what is that?

To calculate the (nominal) outer diameter and overall tire width...

14.00R20: Diameter = (2 × 14" × 100% aspect ratio) + 20" = 48"
Width = 14"

395/85R20: Diameter = 2 × 395mm × 85% aspect ratio) + 20" = 46.4"
Width = 395mm (15.5")



The real size of a typical 395/85R20 is more like 46" tall and 15" wide.
Many of these 939 series trucks are running on 395s, with no issues AFAIK

I have 395s on my 923 but I changed all 6 because of the difference in height. It was a very worthwhile investment. 14-20s are going away. 395s will be available for decades. If you gotta swap any, might as well swap them all.

As I understand it, the main differences between the two are height and availability. 14.00r20 is 48" tall, and the 395 is 46.5" tall, 395's are more common now and 14.00's seem to be hard to find. 395's should fit on you rims, but still double check them to make sure.

You can't mix 395s and 14.00's.

395's are more abundant and durable than the 14.00s. In the XZL brands they are near the same weight ratings. The 395s do get rid of the front axle wheel hop that the 14.00s have. Overall in width they are the same. 14.00s are getting harder to come by but we can get them brand new but you will pay for them with severe nosebleeds that you can buy two 395s for the cost of one 1400.

Jeff Davis has some of the 395 Goodyear MTV tires at his place new. Or I can always bring some down to Memphis or when I get thru south Mississippi

It has been talked about I know. Scott would know forsure but i think it has been done. They would fit just fine. and add about 6 to 8mph. and not as ungodly big as the 16.00s someone put on one. Only issue Some folks see is cost, but compared to what high speed gears cost. maybe itll help.
