I have been using the Garmin GDR35D in my pickup for about a year.
Records in 1080HD video, audio, GPS, Speed, etc.
The "D" stands for dual camera. One facing forward, the other facing back.
Have one in the wife's car also.
Installed the single camera model (GDR35) in the 5 ton Friday.
Just used a suction mount on the passenger side window.
While I haven't really captured anything dramatic, I do feel better knowing that if something happens it won't be a he said/she said situation.
Like if someone pulls out in front of you, you swap paint or worse, and then they claim it was your fault.
They are not available from Garmin USA yet, but you can get them on fleabay from a Garmin Taiwan Dealer.
Best thing about the Garmin units is that they operate from 5v-35v. So you can power it direct or just use the built in battery.
There are other brand of cameras but they are usually 12v only
I can't get pics to load, but the install was as hard as installing a radar detector.
SUPER easy.
The mount is solid so you don't get the bounce like when someone tries to video from inside.
I know it's not for everyone, but for me, knowing I have video/audio proof of what actually happened, makes it worth every penny.
