Interesting gun truck mod

I found some interesting pictures of a gun truck in Vietnam, where the driver was relocated on the bed of the truck. Reminds me on APC drivers, who modded their controls to sit on the APC while driving, rather than in it.
It looks like they used a driveline from a jeep or something else to extend the steering rod, I wonder what kind of driving this was with all the tolerances and the flexing of the frame ond so on!

Can you imagine what kind of nightmare it must have been to figure out a clutch linkage? Wonder how long it took them to figure out all the different mods...e-brake, clutch, throttle...what did they do for gauges? Anyone got a pic of the drivers area on this truck? Those people were thinkin' man!

Looks like the front wheel well is lined with something too. My guess is the driver is worried about hitting a mine and wanted some additional protection for himself. Can't blame him. Must have one heck of a shift lever!

If the Army still let us do things like this , alot more soldiers would be ok , but our unit is run like the boy scouts/ high school.

It supports my theory on, "You can do almost anything with, and to a military truck and still be, "correct."

It might not be "factory correct," but it would be, "combat correct."

We made changes to our 915s in Iraq that weren't factory at all. Some were simply a better idea for theater. The maintenance section boss would gripe, but he never had to drive them through the poo, either. Fortunately, no one ever raised too much stink. They were our trucks. We lived in/on them. When we turned them over to the next Transportation Company at the end of our 13 months, everything we did to the truck as far as "personalizing" had to be un-done.

Now as for, "bobbing?" That's different. No offense to the bobbers, that's their art. They like it and it looks cool, but it's not my area of interest.
