Is the M1100 series an overall better vehicle than the previous A2 series?

Hello All,

Is the m1100 series (Extended capacity, ex 1165, 1167, etc.) A better vehicle (more mechanically sound, better overall truck) than the m10000 series (m1045A2) etc. The obvious advantages are onboard AC that comes stock, and allegedly stronger suspension, but I don't know if that translates into a better vehicle or better ride. I have heard that the brakes are better in the m1100 series vehicles but I don't know that to be true. Half shafts better?

Let me know your thoughts all.

The short answer is NO...it’s not more reliable. I work on them 7 days a week, the most reliable hmmwv is a A0-A1.
i have one A0 truck left that I own, the rest are A2’s and M11XX trucks, I haven’t done a thing to my A0 in years, I just drive it.

Is there a value add in getting the m1100 series? Put another way, are the enhanced springs, brakes, upgraded half shafts (upgraded from 10k to 12k), 150 hp diesel to 190 hp diesel, and or AC worth it? It sounds like they dont result in added reliability.

The more you add, the more there is to go wrong. Not a big deal when you have a supply chain with thousands of people and hundreds of millions of dollars of parts in it. Much bigger deal when you're an army of one.

It really depends on what you are planning to do with it. If you NEED to do 60+mph, if you take it for serious off roading, if you are always driving with heavy loads, then yes, it makes a little more sense to have a newer series truck. The A2 series will do all of the above I listed though without moving to the 1100 series (side note, M1123 is an A2 series, not the same as the rest of the 1100s)

If all you need to do is drive it around on the roads and don't do long distances often, then earlier does just fine.

1100 series is kind of overkill for a civilian in almost every case.

Well, this is certainly reassuring for those of us who ended up with older models.
