Is there a certain year to look for when buying?

I already have two military trailers. A smaller one for behind my fj40 and the same one that they use for the bobbed deuce beds. have had them for a few years now. Guess I already have two spare tires for my deuce when I get one.
The deuce in north bend oregon has been sold already that is posted on here for sale.
What do you think about the red and black bobbed one in evertte for sale?
I guess I might be able to get a hook up one some on ft lewis that maybe available. A family member knows someone in the liquidation area. I will have to wait to find out more.

If you try to title a deuce made in 1982 or later, you may (depending on your state) have to work your way up to the DMV headquarters in your state. Starting in 1982, all US vehicles have 17(I think) digits in the VIN, and the dueces and 5-tons only have 9 digits. The local office DMV computers will kick it out, and headquarters will have to manually issue a title.

Just plan on a hassle, but it can be done.
On one of my trucks I included the trucks registration number in front of the serial number. Worked out to 17 digits exactly. State was pleased.
On another truck the registration number was shorter, 2 letters and just 4 numbers for a total of 15. The state didn't flinch at that either.
YMMV.

The truck does come equipped with a "Parking Brake" but really that's all it is. It will eventually help to slow you down, but with a panic stop...eeks.

I wouldn't let the brake thing steer you away from a deuce. With proper maintenance and inspections you should be good to go.
I have the old style parking brake handle in my deuce (not the newer short type without the arresting teeth) and can block the rear axles while driving without load on the bed. Therefore I think when the "parking brake" is poperly serviced and in good condition, it is quite effective.
Then I agree, I think the braking issue is not that much to worry about if its being looked after. I wouldn't change to a split brake system with the same type of components built in as before (MBC/airpack), because I figure it only complicates the system and if you don't service these properly (more work than on singles...) they are just as prone to fail as the single system. Oh well.. my 2cents

I think choosing the year of the deuce you want to buy depends a little on how you want to have it to look like. If you want to have it in 60ies style I would buy an older one with canvas, wooden sideracks and old style mirrors, maybe even old style turn signals.
If you want to go for a more modern appeal try to get one with fiberglass side racks, west coast mirrors, vinyl top or hard top.
That saves you some $$$ later on cause you don't have to re-arrange things and it even might have already the right paint on it.

Cheers,
Mark

There are two parts to the deuce's identification number: the first part is the registration number, and it is 8 digits. It uniquely identifies the manufacturer, model and year your vehicle was made.. The last part is the serial number. It is 9 digits, and is unique to your vehicle. Combined they form your VIN and are 17 digits in length. Purely a coincidence, I am sure.
