is there a difference between front and rear shocks ?

Hey guys I am replacing front springs and shocks on my Humvee , I thought shocks are the same front and back ?
But on eBay I see sellers specifying Front or back with different part numbers.

a very quick check in the parts manual clearly shows that the front and rear shocks are different.

what makes them different? Is the load capacity? Because they look exactly the same by looking at them

the TM will always show front and rear shocks, but it not necessary to run them that way, Ive run 0070, 0071’s on all 4 corners for 30yrs, lately I’ve been using 0072’s….they are rears, but used on all 4 corners

I realized i only listed the last 4 of the part no…the part numbers are 12340070 or 71 for fronts, rears are 12340072
